Obituary for MARTHA ELIZABETH STROTHERS
Martha Elizabeth Adams Strothers, the daughter of the late John Adams and Georgia Giles Adams, was born on January 29, 1922, in Calvert County, Maryland. She endured a lengthy illness before departing this life on January 18, 2014, and has now gone home to be with the Lord.
Martha was educated in the Calvert County Public Schools. Martha married Ronald Strothers and that union lasted for thirty-six (36) years. She was the mother to one daughter, Bernice Smith Brooks.
Martha was a domestic worker for several families during her lifetime. She embraced each family she worked for as if they were her very own family. She was a very devoted person in all that she did.
Martha loved and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior for many years. She was a devoted member of the Free Gospel Deliverance Temple, until her health began to fail. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 34: 1, "I will bless the Lord at all times, and his praise shall continually be in my mouth." Her favorite selection was, "Going Up Yonder."
Martha leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Ronald Strothers; daughter, Bernice Smith Brooks; grandchildren, Betty, Kevin, Renee, and Le Von; great grand children, Shanique, Calandra, Shemeka, Brandon, Donte, Natarsha, Gary, and Janayla; great-great grandchildren; Ayana, Khaleem, Deonte, Jada, Nasir and Anthony; two brothers, Joseph and James Adams; five sisters-in-law, Ethel, Lillian, Angelina and Dorothy Adams, and Shirley Jackson, and one brother-in-law, Melvin Emerson and a host of other relatives and friends.
Martha was preceded in death by John and Georgia Adams, mother and father; granddaughter, Wanda Smith; grandson, William Hawkins; three (3) sisters, Georgia Wallace, Mary Emerson, and Bernice Simms; five (5) brothers, Harry, Stanley, George, Thurman and Lemuel Adams.
