Obituary for GERTRUDE PARKER
Gertrude Parker affectionally known as Gertie was born February 21, 1927 to the late David and the late Sarah Commodore Parker in Parkers Creek, MD. Gertie peacefully departed this life Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the South River Rehabilitation Center in Annapolis, Maryland. She was the fifth of six children.
Gertie was educated in the Calvert County Public School System. At an early age Gertie joined Brown United Methodist Church in Parkers Creek. Later, she became a member of Brooks United Methodist Church where she loved gospel music and was a member of the Itopia Singing Group. She also sang with the Wayward Travelers. Since Gertie did not drive a car, she was blessed by many church members that took her too many churches and trips. She seldom ever missed church services. The greatest decision she made in her life is that she was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost, August 1973.
Gertie was very neat and clean and was all about family and would often mention working with her mother Sarah around the house. She enjoyed family gatherings and had a love for fried chicken. In fact, anyone who knew her well knew she loved Golden Chicken. Although she had no children, she was an avid caregiver to many. She was vivacious, loved life and was very outspoken who didn't mind giving you a piece of her mind when warranted all the while being a gentle soul with a heart of gold and would do just about anything for anyone including providing gifts for several families during the holiday seasons.
She worked as a domestic worker for Bob and Loretta Hall for many years. She was an employee at Tucker Cleaner until it closed. After which she began working for Harold and Bonnie Denton for 36 years until retirement. They in a sense became a family to her. The Denton family often visits Gertie at the nursing center.
Gertie was preceded in death by her siblings: Richard Ruth, Thomas and Robert. Also, William Brooks, Nephew (Deceased). Gertie leaves to cherish her memories: her brother Ernest (Carlene). Her nephews: Mervin (Sheila), Lorenzo (Linda), Arnold (Paulette), Vernon (Wanita) and Terry (Linda). Her nieces: Brenda (Harland), Betty and Carolyn and her great nieces and nephews. Gertie was the godmother of her great niece Imani Watson. Also, a longtime friend Carolyn Chew and a host of cousins and friends.
