Obituary for MATTIE B. GORMAN
Mattie Bernice Gorman was born on May 1, 1926 in Calvert County, Maryland to the late Warren Gorman and Ada Gorman. On Saturday, October 13, 2018, she transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home.
Mattie was educated in Calvert County public schools. Her employment experiences included working in restaurants and performing domestic services for twenty-three years. She was blessed with three adoring children and worked hard to provide for her family. She was a great cook, and well known for making perfect eggs, delicious potato salad, candied sweets potatoes and greens. Mattie was affectionately known as "Big Mama". Her beautiful and infectious smile would warm your heart. She was direct yet humble in every way.
Mattie was a devoted Christian who outwardly expressed her love for God. She accepted Christ at Plum Point Church during her teenage years. She was faithful in her walk with Christ. She worked on various committees and was a captain for rallies. She attended church services until her health prevented her from doing so. Her favorite hymn was "One Day at a Time".
Mattie was a dedicated volunteer at the North Beach Senior Center for twenty-five years. She enjoyed the camaraderie that the Senior Center brought to her socially.She received a number of awards and official citations from the center for her services. Later, she became a recipient of the same type of services from others including her cousins, Ruby and Zee, that she gave. Mattie loved talking daily to her very dear friend, Blanche Greene. She also enjoyed listening to gospel radio and watching sports on television. Baseball was her passion, especially the Orioles. She looked forward to the annual Memorial Day celebrations with family and friends at her home.
Cherishing her memories forever is her son: Alvin G. Wills, Sr. (Paulette), grandchildren: Dwight Bishop, Jr. (Shaquisha), Alvin Wills, Jr. (Faith), Eugene Parran, Jr., great grandchildren: Olivia Bishop, Marissa Bishop, and Jasmin Wills, two brothers: Genious Gorman, Sr. (Betty) and Archie Gorman (Sondra), daughter-in-law: Irene Parran; two aunts, Juanita Jones and Corina Jones; nieces: Melvenna Thompson (Ernest), Koren Brown (Tyrone), Patricia Gorman; nephews: Genious Gorman, Jr., Reginald Berry, Sr. (Carlise), Rodell Berry, Sylvester Parran, Travis Gorman (Ann). Also, to cherish her memories are a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Ada Gorman, son Eugene Parran, Sr. and daughter, Barbara Bishop.
