Obituary for LAWRENCE HARVEY CHEW
LAWRENCE HARVEY CHEW, 83, a longtime resident of Harwood, Maryland was called to eternal rest on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Maryland. He was born on June 1, 1935 to the late Harvey Chew and Georgetta Creek Chew.
Lawrence received his education at the little school on the hill which was known as Friendship Elementary School. He attended Carter's United Methodist Church in Friendship, MD at an early age. He retired from Admiral Farragut Apartments in Annapolis, MD after 30 years of work. Lawrence currently was working for Hyatt Commercial until he was admitted to the hospital.
Lawrence was blessed with two daughters, the late Maria Gross and Marsha Chew. He had a special bond with his daughters, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, especially Geo. The bond with his nieces and nephews was just as strong; especially with his great-nephews Kyle, Tyson, and Austin. He was known as Uncle Lawrence, Unc, and Vern. If he did not come to the family gatherings, everyone would always stop by his house on their way home to visit and bring him a plate. Lawrence loved watching the news, baseball and football games. He could and would tell you everything that happened in the news that day. If his team was losing, he would say "you better go help out YOUR team".
Lawrence was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Gross; grandson, Alfonzo Jones; three sisters, Dorothy Chew, Margaret Savoy, and Arvita Chew; brother, Melvin Watkins, two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Spriggs, and Anthony Maynard.
Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Marsha Chew of Sunderland; three grandchildren, Shaquita, Shirley, and Devonya Jones; five great-grandchildren, Geovanni Ventura, Trevon Jones, Dashawn, Saniya, and lmani Clark; four sisters, Mary Maynard, Shirley Spriggs, Rev. Hattie McDuffie and Frances Brown; two brothers, Roland and Charles Chew; two sisters-in-law, Daisy and Rita Chew; two brothers-in-law, Ernest McDuffie, and Oliver Brown; a special friend, Emily Rowe and her grandson, Kayden Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
