Obituary for EDGAR C. FRANKLIN
Edgar Carroll Franklin was born November 9, 1930 in Dunkirk, MD to Otha and Lydia (Watkins) Franklin (deceased). Edgar departed this life at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, Baltimore, MD on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
Edgar was raised in Dunkirk, MD with 8 siblings: Aliene V. Franklin-Lee (deceased), Harrison Franklin (deceased), Stanley O. Franklin (deceased), Doris M. Franklin-Jones (deceased), William E. (Bill) Franklin (deceased), Arthelia B. Franklin- Hurley (deceased), Donald T. Franklin, Adele C. Franklin -Jones and 1 Nephew, Hilton O. Franklin (deceased) and a Niece, Millicent V. Franklin. Edgar was preceded in death by his beloved life partner Daisy Roach; brothers-in-law, were Danny Lee-deceased, Gilbert Jones-deceased, Norman Hurley (deceased), and Clarence R. Jones (deceased); sisters-in-law, Jerethia Franklin and Helen Franklin (deceased).
Edgar was schooled in the Calvert County Public School system and graduated from WS Brooks High School. He attended a trade school upon his Honorable Discharge from the US Army. Edgar drove cabs in the District of Columbia for many years. He retired from the Prince George’s County School System.
Edgar attended Coopers Church and found great satisfaction in Gospel Music, Quartets, and his lifelong passion for Baseball. He was a member of the Owings Eagles and played on the team for many years. He was also a follower of the Drury Giants. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 275 in Glenarden, MD. Edgar was a kind and generous person and was always willing to help. He also expected one to do what he said, regardless of the right (in his opinion) or wrong in the other persons’ opinion.
Edgar is survived by Daughters, Towanda Franklin, Phyllis Sewell, Janice Rakes (George) and Paula Franklin. Grandchildren Shameka Gibbs, Roshonne Sewell-Brown (Reuben), Jamarr Mills, and Dwayne Douglas Jr,. Great-Grand-children Allahna Brown and Khyzir Douglas; one brother, Donald T. Franklin and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Edgar’s presence among, his family, friends and acquaintances will surely be missed.
