Woodrow attended High School and completed the 7th grade in 1943 in Dares Beach, Maryland. He worked as a Farmer for 2 years before his induction into the Army on May 21, 1946. He was assigned to Camp Beale, California as a (Tee 5) 271 Signal man to direct the Winch Operation in the loading & unloading of military supplies & equipment's, as well as 139th port company, Guam Pacific & World War II, where he received a "Victory Medal" and honorary discharge. At the end of his tour he worked in constructions and general laborers Local Union 657. Upon leaving the service, he met and married Mary Clementine Jones on October 10, 1951, and they were blessed with eight children.
Pepsi loved life. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers-in-law, Sonny, Morgan and Frank Jones (deceased), Roland
Morsell and his nephew Dick Jones; as well as a host of family and friends. He was known as the matriarch of the family. He loved the Baltimore Orioles and made sure to never miss a game. Those that know him best knew that his favorite phrase, given by his granddaughter Shannon, was "I got it going on!"
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Jones (Naval Jones) and Virginia Gross; his children, Kevin Leroy Gross and Patricia Ann Harrod.
He leaves to cherish fond memories of his life, his wife, Mary C. Gross; his brothers, Andrew Gross (Madeline Gross) and Major Gross (Teresa Gross); his sisters, Bernice Gross; his sons,
Woodrow Gross J r. (Leslie Reid) and Charles Melvin Gross; his daughters, Linda Gross, Phyllis Gross, Doris Gross, Velma Gray (Ralph Gray Sr.), and Cheryl Gross; his grandchildren, Dexter Gorman, Corey Hawkins, Sharon Gross, Brian McKay, Nicole McKay, Ralph " Boo" Gray Jr., Chenique Lofton, Shannon Gray, La'Tise Gross , Courtney Gray, and LaTrell Gross ; and two greatgrandchildren, Zaniya Gross , Bracey Gross , Da ' Kari Griffin , Jaleel Griffin.
