Obituary for MAMIE E. TORNEY
Mamie Ellen Taylor Torney was born to the late George and Ella Taylor on December 23, 1918. She was the youngest of five children. She peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, August 31st at Calvert Nursing Center in Prince Frederick. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse, siblings George, James, Marie, and Gladys, and sons Richard and George.  Mamie was a lifelong resident of Calvert County where she attended the Public Schools. She held down a variety of jobs; however she worked tirelessly at Warren Denton’s Oyster House for over 30 years.  Mamie enjoyed her life; participating in several hobbies – fishing, crabbing, playing cards, watching her beloved Baltimore Orioles, and hoping to win big with scratch offs. A major highlight in her not so young years was when she attended a professional baseball game at Camden Yards. Her most precious past-times were spent being surrounded by her family. Family times were always filled with joy and laughter.  Though she will be greatly missed, Mamie leaves four daughters – Betty), Lois (Thomas), Gladys, and Thelma; four sons – Wydee (Deloris), Tyrone (Fern), Hosie and Levi (Daria); three nieces - Doris Armstead, Helen Dingle and Gladys (Baby Ree) Parran who she loved as a daughter; 51 grandchildren; 115 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of great-great grandchildren, other family members and friends to cherish many fond memories.
