Obituary for GEORGE M. DAWKINS, SR.
On Saturday, January 6, 2018, at approximately 2:15 pm at the Calvert County Nursing Home in Prince Frederick, Maryland, the angel of the Lord Jesus Christ escorted George McKinley Dawkins, Sr. at the age of 95 to his heavenly home. He has begun his new life with our Heavenly Father for eternal peace.
George McKinley Dawkins, Sr., son of the late William and Maryann Dawkins of Calvert County, Maryland, was born on October 19, 1922, in Lusby, Maryland. He was educated in the Calvert County Public Schools system.
On April 12, 1952, he was joined in holy matrimony to Mary Victoria Heigh (who preceded him in death). This union was blessed with five children. George Sr. was a devoted husband and father. He was also highly respected by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known as a man full of wisdom. George, Sr. was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, and he often shared his belief in God with his family. In the later years of his life, he always thanked God for the love and unity of his family. It was good to see how blessed he felt.
He worked for and retired from Labor Union 456 as a construction laborer. He was a dedicated worker and outstanding provider for his family. His hobbies involved hunting, fishing, crabbing, gardening; and he was an avid baseball fan.
The love he had for his family was manifested in everything he did. George Sr., leaves to cherish his fond memories to two sons: George, Jr. (Phyllis) and Larry (Alice); three daughters: Clarice Townsend (Arnold), Claudette Hall, Sharilyn Connally (Levi Jr.) and a devoted niece Lillian Dawkins; eighteen grandchildren: Iris, Georgia, Troy, Lyntina, Derrick, Pierre, Devon, Michael, Travis, Tremaine, Justin, Morgan, Shatava, Candice, Akiyyah, Phillip, Brandon, and Levi Ill; twentyeight great-grandchildren: Ashley, Alyssa, Aleyah, Nathaniel M., Jasmin, Briceton, Travin, Maya, Maryah, Mary, Derrick Jr., Larissa, Daire, Jeremiah, Shakaya, Tremiere, Solomon, Nathaniel O., Gisell, Timothy, Na'Sheir, Kimara, Simeon, Malik, Nehemiah, Naomi, Harvey, and Hunter; three great-great grandchildren: Jeremiah, Kaleigh, and Cory Jr. He is survived by his brother, Calvin Dawkins (Joella); two brothers-in-law: Robert Halt Enoch Johnson, four sisters-in-law: Iva Savage, Ethel Contee, Jeanette Ford, and Pearl Hall. He has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, church members, and neighbors. He will be sorely missed by all.
