Obituary for CORINA N. JONES
Corina Nice Jones was born November 15, 1934, in Chaneyville, MD to Roland and Sophia Wallace-Riggs. She departed this life, at home, June 27, 2022, with the comfort of her children and grandchildren around her.
Corina attended Calvert County Public Schools, graduating from Brooks Senior High School. Later in life, she met and married the love of her life, William “Spike” Jones January 23, 1969. She raised her children; Joan, Michael, Maxine, Phillip, Florine, and Clinton to always put family first. She began her career at Bee’s & Paul’s Department Store. Then moved onto hospitality at Sea Breeze Restaurant and High’s.
“Nicey” as she was known to many had a great love for her family. She enjoyed everyone coming to her house not only for the weekly Sunday dinners but any occasion. She would just sit back and laugh, not saying very much but somehow always found a way of getting in a quirky comment. She couldn’t wait for the yearly girls’ trip to Williamsburg or the family vacation to Orlando. Nicey not only embraced her immediate family, but many bonus grandchildren. Whether you called her mommy, grandma, granny or Nice, she answered with a smile.
Some of her favorites included: Food: Pepsi, Lemon Pound Cake, Liver & Onions; Game Shows: Price is Right, Family Feud and Let’s Make a Deal; Washington Redskins and playing Solitaire on her phone. She loved attending sporting events of her kids, grand kids, and great grands. You could always see “The Golden Girls” (Maxine, Nicey and Joan) out and about for just a joy ride.
Proceeding her in death were her husband William Jones and son Michael, Sr.; sisters: Ruby Burnett, Annabelle Booth and Lavenia Wills; son-n-law: Terence Barnett.
Precious memories will be left to her children: Joan Sharpe (Robert), Maxine, Phillip (Marina), Florine Barnett and Clinton (Sharon); daughter-in-law: Rolinda Jones; grandchildren: Anthony Sharpe, Le’Kita Sharpe-Windley, Lisa Sharp, Michael Jones, Jr., Michelle Jones, Mario Hatton, Brian Curtis, Ikea Wall, Cortina Womack (Billy), Richard Talley, Ricardo Talley, Tiera Barnett, Tarvae’ Barnett, Travon Spriggs, Clinton Jones, Jr., Corina Jones, and Jordan Jones; great-grands: Somaya & Mekhi Windley, Ta’Juan Cradle, Le’Dauntae Perry, Jr., De’Layna Jones, Teairra Jones, Milan Jones, Demariyah Curtis, Marley & Morrison Womack, Monet Vauss, Zaiveon Wallace-Talley, Teigan Barnett, Tarvae Barnett, Jr., Karsyn Barnett, Terence Barnett and Amir James; sister-in-law: Juanita Jones (Earle-deceased), favorite cousin: Thelma Howard; niece: Ozelius Spriggs and best friend: Ilean Cook; great niece: Odaris Coates.
She also leaves honorary and loving play daughter: Myrtle Jones; honorary son: James Ford; honorary grandson: Terrence Plater. She will be missed by her adopted children and grandchildren. Along with a great host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
