Obituary for HELEN MARIE JONES
In the early morning of March 5, 2022, the angel of silence entered a room at Calvert Medical Health Center and called Helen Marie Jones home to her final resting place, after a brief illness.
Helen, affectionately known as Babysis, was born on May 21,1957 in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. She was the daughter of Mabel and Lambertine Jones. She obtained her education in the Calvert County Public Schools and was a graduate of the 1975 class at Northern High School.
Babysis obtained her first job at District Photo in Greenbelt, MD. She also held employment at Victor Stanley in Dunkirk, MD and Superior Cleaners in Lothian, MD, with her last employment being with the ARC of Southern Maryland. She loved her clients, especially Joe, Artie, and Sam. She was so attached to her clients that she would bring them to church with her and to her family gatherings.
Helen was a dedicated member of Wards Memorial United Church. While there, she was a member of the SPPRC, church choirs, Hospitality Committee and Hospice Outreach Committee. She enjoyed good preaching and singing. During her illness, she made every effort to attend church, with her last visit being on February 20, 2022.
Babysis was a dedicated mother and took special pride in her three children, Jamar, Shavon, and Shawn. Jamar always ensured all her needs and wants were met. Shavon was her ride or die partner. Shawn was her eating partner and could do no wrong. She was a dedicated grandmother to Lil Jamar, Amir, Lil Shawn, and Mia. There were very few days where she did not visit, or face time them. They could do no wrong. One night, her three-year-old grandson Lil Shawn tried to face time his BoBo at 2:30 a.m.
Helen loved to eat but was unable to enjoy food during her illness. She mastered her mother’s rice pudding and would fix several bowls to ensure her children and siblings got some. Shavon and her daughter-in-law Kisha ensured she did not take the recipe with her. Two weeks prior to her death, she had to show them how to make it. So, they now have the recipe and are now the rice pudding makers.
Helen loved watching her Westerns, Judge Judy, 600 lb. show and her soap operas.
When she should have been sleeping, she spent the nights listening to gospel music and watching TV shows on her tablet. When that died, she was on face book until her telephone died. Then she would finally go to sleep around 4:00 a.m.
Babysis had a private security guard, “her dad.” Her dad would not leave her home alone if no one were at the house. He did not get paid for this job because he slept on it more than he stayed awake.
Helen had two special friends for over 40 years. The friendship was shared with one of her first co-workers Yvonne Snoddy and her sister-in-law Brenda Wright.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy her sons: Jamar Gross (Markisha) and Shawn Jones, Sr.; daughter: Shavon Jones; father, Lambertine Jones; sisters, Diane King (Tyrone), Delores and Linda Jones; brothers Lambertine, Jr. (Shelly) and Ellis Jones (Dolores); grandsons, Jamar, II and Amir Gross, and Shawn Jones, Jr.; granddaughter Amiyah Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mabel Jones, brother, Robert Jones, Sr., nephew Marquise Porter, fiancée, Page Jones, Grandparents, Ellen and Joseph Gray and Alverta and Lawrence Jones.
