Mildred Freeland Ray, daughter of the late Spencer Freeland and Emma
Smith Freeland, was born on March 22, 1915 in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
She departed this life on July 16, 2017. Mildred was educated in Calvert County Public Schools.
Mildred married Langston Wilson Ray and was blessed with two children, Bette Roshe Ray (deceased) and Langston Wilson Ray II.
Mildred worked for the federal government for 28 years and retired from Fort Holabird in 1979.
Mildred loved nature, especially, beautiful flowers• and plants and the different kinds of birds that made her back yard their home. When she was healthy, she watered her flowers and plants and fed the birds daily. Mildred was independent and drove her own car until she was 95 years old, when she was stopped on the highway by a policeman who told her she was driving too slowly.
Mildred was religious and believed in doing things by the book. She loved her family and would go out of the way to please her relatives and friends, no matter what it took. Mildred also loved to bake pies, cakes and puddings and to pickle and can fruits. She was known to always have a sweet dessert at her house to offer family and friends.
Mildred was predeceased by ten brothers and sisters. She was close to them all, especially her brother Malcolm who departed this life on April 14, 2017.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memory: her son Langston Wilson Ray II and his wife Yvonne R. Ray; her granddaughter Jewel Raneise Ray; nieces and nephews - Brenda Johnson, Karen Wood, Dorenda Brooks, Wilds Freeland Jr., Lillie Wilkins, Houston Gray, Chesley Gray, Cindy Mason, Gregory Freeland, Ronald Freeland, and Mira Garden. Mildred also leaves several great nieces and great nephews along with many devoted friends.
