GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Joseph F. Smith was born on June 02, 1946 in Clinton, Maryland to the late Annie and Walter George Smith. He graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in 1965. Joe departed this life on January 19, 2021.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed trips to Florida with his sister, Barbara and brother-in-law, Tuck. Joe was really close to his siblings and had a special bond with his brother Walter better known as “Dick” by Joe. They would talk almost every day and he looked forward to their time together. Joe enjoyed the family gatherings at his niece Debbie’s house, where they would share in a family meal, laughing, playing cards and talking about old times. Joe relished his time with his daughters and grandchildren as well. Joe would spend his mornings reading his bible and listening to gospel. He loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for his family. We would watch old comedies and westerns together and he would always make us laugh with his dancing and jokes. He liked the outdoors and would go for walks in the park and on the boardwalk with his daughters and grandkids. When in Virginia with his granddaughter Aniya (Mya) they would spend time gardening, going on walks in the park, cooking together and playing games. Aniya especially enjoyed playing checkers with Grandpop, she would often tell him “you’re cheating”. He would smile and respond by saying “oh, my eyes”. Aniya loved the time she spent with Grandpop and to have made lifelong memories of their time together. Karina, his great granddaughter, was Grandpop’s little helper.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Smith and daughter Teralye. Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Melissa (Missy Lou), Felicia (Lee), Crystal, Gail, Cranston, Gregory, Burton and Terry. Grandkids: Shawnya, Tyesha, Turkeisha, Rochelle, Charmane, Jasmine, Tierra, Malika, Montavia, Monique, Divante, Audrey, Tristen, Erin, Aniya, Zubeda, Ciara, Christopher. Great granddaughter: Karina. Son-in-law: Chadd. Siblings: Walter Smith (Dick), Deborah, Darrell, Ricky, Estell and a special childhood friend that was more like a brother, Eugene. Sister-in-law: Anne and Brother-in-law Gainwell. Siblings that preceded him in death: Betty Anne, Joyce, Shirley, Barbara and Ronnie. Joe leaves behind a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved very dearly.
