Obituary for MICHAEL DEANER CLAGGETT
In the early morning hours of June 10, 2017, Michael Deaner Claggett transitioned peacefully from this life in the comforts of his home. Michael was born on March 18, 1955 in Prince Frederick, Maryland and was the oldest of seven children. Michael was affectionately known as ‘Keema’ and ‘Mike’ by his family and friends and leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Elsie L. Claggett (Floyd); five children, Conan (Dicky) Smith, LaToya Mitchell (Lateef), Candi and Nicole Claggett, and Alicia Garrett; three grandchildren, Marcel Ross, Aaliyah Smith and Lyric Mitchell; two sisters, Carolyn Harcum (Rayfield Sr.) and Frances Butler (Don); four brothers, Robert (Bobby) Jones, MacArthur (Mac) Jones, Dennis Jones (Barbara), and Maurice (Nick) Jones; his Aunt & Uncle, Annie and Chester Mackall Sr.; a special friend Cathy Thomas and a host of family and friends. Michael received his education in the Calvert County Public School System and later worked in a variety of trades ranging from mechanic and repair to carpentry and construction. His great heart and willing spirit gained him the title, ‘Jack of All Trades’. Michael was also known for his portrayal of his two favorite superstars, ‘Michael Jackson’ and ‘Al Green’. Michael loved to sing and dance, but even more than that, Michael loved to perform. Every party, wedding, cook-out, or just a family get-together was a signal to Michael that it was showtime. Michael created his own stage wherever he went and his singing and dancing were sure to captivate, entertain and if nothing else, draw a great big belly laugh from his audience. ‘For the Good Times’, Michael would sing and just by watching him, you were guaranteed to have just that, a good time. These ‘Life of the Party’ memories that Michael leaves with us (not to mention the highly sought- after videos of him in action) will undoubtedly keep us entertained and his memory alive for many years to come. But when the show is over and the laughter begins to subside, if you knew Michael, we are certain you will hear his famous ‘train whistle’ rendition that is sure to keep the party going. In the spring of 2016, Michael rededicated his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized is Jesus name; an in his order, God called Michael home for the audition of a lifetime. Michael, we know you have been saving your best performance for the Lord; sing and make melodies from your heart (Eph. 5:19) and dance like David with all your might (2 Sam. 6:14). We love you Keema!
