Obituary for RICHARD WILBUR COLLINS, III
Richard W. Collins III was born December 12, 1993 in Norfolk, VA to Richard W. Collins Jr. and Dawn M. Collins. Richard was a young man of many talents and possessed a keen interest in the world around him. He enjoyed playing golf, soccer, lacrosse, video games, baseball, and engaging in philosophical and political conversation.
Richard accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at a young age. He recently reiterated that God had given him everything he had asked for and that all he needed was faith as small as a mustard seed. Richard had compassion for all types of people. His desire was to see everyone happy and was willing to lend a helping hand to all those he came in contact with.
All those who knew Richard, knew him by one of his self-proclaimed aliases such as Cadet Collins, R-Money, Richie Nine-Iron, and Mr. Handsome and Wealthy. However, to his family, he was just "Richie."
Richard excelled academically at Annapolis Area Christian High School where he also played soccer and lacrosse. Richard matriculated at Bowie State University. While there, he was selected for the Army ROTC program where he achieved great feats and was revered by his comrades. He was extremely popular and also instrumental in starting the first lacrosse team at Bowie State. He completed all the requirements for the Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. On May 18, 2017, Richard was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army.
Richie is survived by his parents Richard and Dawn M. Collins of Owings, MD; sister Robyn Collins of Owings, MD; maternal grandparents, Elders Kenneth and Luverna Brooks of Plymouth, NC. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
Lt. Richard Collins ill, we love and salute you. The impact you had on the lives of many is evident and your legacy will live on.
