Obituary for Willie Mae Porter-Lester

Willie Mae was born on February 13, 1913 in Asheville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Silas Jenkins and Gertrude Barber. Willie Mae is survived by her four children James W. Porter, William S. Lester, Annie J. Lester-Nunley, and Mary H Lester-Rudd, a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her dearest friend Mrs. Annie Brooks. Willie Mae was a homemaker and helped her husband Marion Lester establish his electrical company Lester and Sons. She later worked as a housekeeper and a nanny. She was also a volunteer in the Senior Companion program in local nursing facilities in Calvert County. She enjoyed reading poetry and short stories, gardening, canning, and spending time telling stories to her grandchildren about her family and growing up in Valdosta, Ga. When she was able to she would travel to visit family and friends in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Georgia. She is predeceased by her parents, husbands Bennie Porter and Marion Lester, her brother James S. Jenkins and two sons John E. Porter and Lester N. Lester.
