Obituary for WILSON R. MASON

Wilson Rawlings Mason was born on February 25, 1936 to the late James Mason and Melna Vera Dixon in West Beach, Calvert County, Maryland. He departed this life on Sunday, March 1, 2020, after a brief illness. Wilson was the second oldest of five siblings.

Wilson received his education in the public schools of Calvert County, Maryland. He decided to follow in the footsteps of his older brother James, and joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged after four years of service.

Wilson worked various jobs until he became employed by the Calvert County Government's Highway Maintenance Office, until he retired.

In his later years, Wilson joined St. Edmonds United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the St. Edmonds Methodist Men, a member of the Men's Ministry and a member of the Usher Board. As an usher, he took great pride in his duties and he never missed an usher's workshop, and took great pride in learning all the ushering signs and protocols which allowed him to communicate with fellow ushers as he performed his duties while working the floor. Wilson was also one of the first to arrive at church on Sunday mornings and never wanted to be late to any church function.

Wilson was a diehard Redskins fan, and to him there was no greater team than his 'Skins. He also developed a great love for fishing and he spent a lot of time fishing with his son Lorenzo, and anyone else that would go with him. He often traveled miles to go fishing.

Wilson leaves to mourn his passing: his wife of 24 years, Edith; his son, Lorenzo along with his fiancé, Joann, and Lorenzo's children, Nicole and Jordan, as well as Nicole's daughter Chaikee Golding and her two children Lashae and Gayjuan.

He leaves Mrs. Lucy Jones, who raised Lorenzo; his brother James of New Bern, North Carolina; three nephews: James, Allen and Nicholas; three nieces: Joann, Joyce and Pamela; two step-children: Bridgett (Timothy) and Ronald (LaKera); three sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law.

Wilson also leaves his McDonalds morning crew and the guys at the pool room at Calvert Pines Center, along with special friends Leo and Mary Rice, with whom he and his wife spent a lot of time traveling to various historical places, and a host of other relatives and friends.
