Obituary for WILSON L. PARRAN SR.
Wilson Leroy Parran, Sr. was born on Friday January 9, 1942 in Prince Frederick, Maryland to Geneva Hicks-Parran and John Julius Parran.
Wilson was formally educated in the public schools of Calvert County and it was at William Sampson Brooks High School that Wilson's natural athleticism and talent shined. He played basketball, football and baseball. Upon graduation in 1960, Wilson received a scholarship from Maryland State College which is now known as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Wilson continued to play baseball in organized leagues well into adulthood. The Calvert Stars, Prince Frederick Hustlers and the C.C. Tigers.
On January 25, 1964, Wilson was joined in holy matrimony to the former Roberta Gross in the parsonage of the Carroll United Methodist Church where Roberta attended. From this union were born two sons and one daughter: Wilson Jr., Barry and Natasha.
In 1966, Wilson was drafted into the United States Army stationed at Fort Jackson military base before being deployed to Germany. He served two years returning home in 1968 working in the construction industry for Laborers' International Union of North America Local Union 832 which later changed to Local 657.
Wilson was a member Victoria Lodge #71, which he's still a member for 50 years. He is also a member of the American Legion Post #220. Wilson was also a member of Jerusalem Temple #4 of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Noble of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America, Inc. As a young boy Wilson joined Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Dares Beach Road where he served as a Lay Speaker for many years also resided on the Trustee Board and Building Committee.
In 1975, Wilson became a member of the Board of Education in Calvert County, MD. He served a four-year term. One of his joys was giving his family their high school Diplomas. Around 7:00 pm on Thursday evening, Wilson peacefully went home to be with the Lord sitting in his favorite recliner at home, where he wanted to be.
Wilson was preceded in death by: his devoted mother, Geneva Hicks-Parran; his father John Julius Parran; step-mother, Loretta Parran; beloved father and mother-in-law, George and Mary Gross; 3 brothers: Charles Parran, John Oland us Parran and Oliver Parran; 2 sisters: Hortense Wilson and Ruby Neely; and his sister-in-law, Gillian Parran; 2 brother-in-law, Robert Wilson and John Neely Sr.
Wilson Leroy Parran leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Roberta; 3 daughters: Glenda (Mousie), Natasha (Moe), Angela (Boobie); 3 sons: Wilson (Jr.), Barry and Ambrose; one daughter-in-law, Tia Buck; grandchildren: Trischana (Tokunbo) Davies, Kimberlae Spriggs, Kim Jr., Miah Parran, Tanesha Parran, Koryn Parran, Aaliyah Parran, Demetrius Dickie, Bronzton Carrington, Ralphie Kyler, Harmony Kyler and Ambrose Jr; great grandchildren: Ekundayo Davies, Abioseh Davies, Kalen Spriggs and Kenzie Spriggs.
He also leaves to honor his memory: 2 sisters; Catherine Adams and June Parran; 3 brothers: Walter Parran, John Jackson (Nellie) and Richard Jackson (JoAnn); admiring nephews: William David Parran and John Neely Jr; sister-in-law’s: Marie Parran, Georgia Thomas, Claudette Smith, Doreatha Gross, Wanda Gross and Teresa Gross; brother-in-law’s: Rodell Mackall, Larry Gross, George Gross, Alfred Gross and Lemuel Thomas; lifelong friends Vernon (Butch) Jones, Rodney Thomas and Claude Brooks. Constant friends and caretakers: Elijah Hunter, Eric Murray and Nathaniel Parker. Very dear friend and neighbor, Mildred Hill; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews who adore their "Uncle Wilson" and countless relatives, friends and admirers.
