Obituary for WILFORD H. JONES
Wilford Harrison Jones slept away on December 5, 2015, at Burnett Calvert Hospice House, Prince Frederick, Maryland.
He was born July 12, 1918, in Calvert County, Maryland, to the late Joseph, Jr. and Essie Freeland Jones. He received his education from the Calvert County Public School System. On October 18, 1937, Wilford was united in holy matrimony to Frieda Elizabeth Holland. From this union they were blessed with four children.
In his early years, Wilford worked on the Wards Farm in Lower Marlboro. He later moved to his father's farm in Huntingtown to farm with him. Years later, he left the farm to work in the construction field. Being a farmer at heart, he again returned to farming. He loved his garden and would generously share his vegetables with his family and friends. In his later years he worked for the Brady family until his vision began to fade.
Wilford was baptized in Jesus name at the Bethel Way of the Cross Church, Huntingtown, Maryland; he later joined the Mt. Gethsemane Holiness Church where he served on the Board of Trustees.
Wilford was preceded in death by his wife, Freida, daughter, Peggy Arde, his three sisters and five brothers. He was the last living child of his parents, Joseph and Essie Jones. Two very good friends, Joseph Adams,Sr. and Harold Smith, Sr., also preceded him in death.
Wilford leaves to cherish his memories, his children Betty Davis, Gaines(Sandra) Jones and Wilford (Viola) Jones; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. One special son, Joseph Bracey, one brother-in-law, Bishop Robert D. Watts; two sisters-in-law, Lovelette Reid and Sofornia Holland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and three close friends, Floyd Jones, Benjamin Hawkins and James Hicks.
