Obituary for WESLEY R. JONES, JR.

Wesley Roosevelt Jones, Jr., was born June 18, 1951, at Calvert Hospital in Prince Frederick, Maryland to the late Wesley R. Jones, Sr., and Mary Holland. Wesley fondly known as Frog was lovingly raised by his aunt Janie Jones and her husband Walter F. Jones, Sr., God’s chosen parents to love and raise him as their own. God in his infinite wisdom called Wesley to his great reward, his heavenly home on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 12:50 a.m. at Serenity and Rehab Health in Washington, D.C.

Wes was educated in the public schools of Calvert County, Maryland. In his earlier years he was employed by E&C Excavating and Construction in Bladensburg, Maryland. He also drove for Faure Bus Company in his spare time. His final employment was with D.C. Department of Public Works as an electrician.

Frog loved the Lord, the spoken word, attending church, reading his bible, and listening to the word in song. He attended Plum Point and Patuxent United Methodist Church in Huntingtown, Maryland as well as Christ is the Answer in Annapolis, Maryland along with his family. He frequently worshiped at Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland with his girlfriend Towana, until his death.

Wesley was the proud father of two sons, Andre Roosevelt and Darrell Wesley Jones. Oh, how he loved his boys; they were his heartbeat, his lifeline! He took pride in watching them grow up. His heart was filled with great joy when each of them received their high school diploma. In addition, he was extremely proud to see his son, Darrell, receive his Plumbing Apprenticeship License and even prouder when he received his Master Plumbing License. When he became a grandfather of four, he was over the moon!!

Affectionately known as Wes, Gas, Moon or Frog, he was an avid car aficionado. He had a passion for all things cars and enjoyed going to and watching NHRA Drag Racing, riding motorcycles and driving trucks. In his heyday he owned a few nice rides. Frog loved watching all types of sports from track and field, baseball, basketball to tennis and especially football. Growing up he played baseball and was quite good at it; a true ace as his pitches were hard to hit. He was a loyal Dallas Cowboy fan, which was something he shared with his son Darrell. The Cowboys last game probably had him cussing his first day in heaven:)!!

Frog was a people person and made friends wherever he went. It was nothing for him to lend a helping hand, share whatever he had or help whenever and wherever he was needed. He enjoyed dancing, R&B, and oldies but goodies music, playing guitar, cooking, loved seafood, family gatherings and celebrations and traveling.

He shared a close relationship with his sister Joyce, who was his first cousin, big sister and second mom. She gave him the nickname Frog because when he started crawling it mimicked a frog hoping. His brother Robert (Winfield) was his partner in crime. He shared a big brother/little brother relation with two of his nephews, Faure Rice and Andre Holland. Frog genuinely loved his family and friends and had a special and unique relationship with them all.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; son Andre; brothers Earl and Walter F. Jones, Jr., and Francis Holland; sister-in-law Carol Ann Jones and brother-in-law Raymond Rice.

Wes leaves to cherish loving memories his son Darrell, four grandchildren, Deion, Alysa, Malik and Lil Darrell Jones; sisters Joyce E. Rice and Adele F. Freeman; brother Robert Holland; sister-in-law Sandra Jones; devoted girlfriend Towana Thompson-Scales; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
