Obituary for WARREN "NAT" BISHOP BEVERLY, JR.
Warren Bishop Beverly Jr. was born June 8, 1929 in Lusby, Maryland to the late Warren Beverly, Sr. and Flossie Johnson (Julius Johnson - Stepfather). During his early years, Susie Cornish (Great Aunt) had a positive influence on his life and he often reflected of the good times he shared with her and her son, Amos. He was educated in the public school system of Calvert County, Maryland.
During his life, he held numerous positions in support of his family. Some of his early jobs included oysterman, laborer, construction worker and professional driver. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and as such owned a fleet of dump trucks; managed several gas stations in Washington, DC; was President of the Yellow Cab Company in Washington, DC; owned BEVCO Inc., a rental of more than 100 taxi cabs, one of which he continued to drive until recently; owned Services, Unlimited, a garage and towing service for auto care and taxi cab services in Washington, DC; and owned a charter service, taking numerous excursions up and down the east coast which fueled his passion for people and travel.
At an early age, his life was threatened by rheumatic fever, a heart murmur, and a venomous snake bite, but those things strengthened his faith and resolve to live life to the fullest and for the Lord. Warren loved singing gospel music with quartets with Napoleon Gross, Leroy Savage, and George Savage, which lead to his following of quartets and singing groups and his large collection of gospel videos and CDs. He joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Alexandria, Virginia and got great joy from family attendance at their Father's Day celebrations.
The time Warren cherished the most was shared with family and special friends. He especially enjoyed home cooked meals and being catered to by his children and grandchildren. He reached out to everyone near and far, became friends to many and was known to be a help to those in need. Anyone who knew him, knew him well and by many names. Some called him "B", "Nat", "Mr. B.", ''Webster", "Mini Me" and "Daddy Warren". He was endearing to most all he encountered. He will be remembered for his generous heart, upbeat spirit, love for gospel music, and debonair style. He was a gentlemen's gentleman; never wearing anything but fine suits and dress shoes at all times. Suits, hats (Kangos), and cars (Cadillacs) were his favorites.
On Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 12:40 p.m., God returned to claim one of his favorite sons. Left with heavy hearts and fond memories of him always are Joyce E. Beverly (wife); Myrtle (sister) and Spencer Johnson of Newark, NJ; one sister-in-law, Alfreda Weems; one aunt, Beuna Weems; twelve children, Wilbur Beverly (Rose), Patricia Briscoe (James), Wayne Beverly (Mary), Sharon Beverly, Ronald Beverly, Renee DeShazor, Kimberli Beverly, Marcia Beverly, Linwood Beverly (Jeanette), Natalie Simmons, J.D. Beverly (Althea), and Andrea Fleet (Leslie). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grand children and a host of relatives and special friends. He was preceded in death by two children Erskin and Winfred ''Winnie" Beverly and two grandchildren, Timothy and Robert Gray.
