Obituary for WANDA ANN ASHTON
Wanda Ann Ashton, 58, of Great Mills. MD departed this life on December 24, 2018. Wanda also known to many as "Stoogie" was a native of St. Mary's County. She was born in Virginia on January 21, 1960 to Mary Holton and Samuel Cradle. Stoogie graduated from Chopticon High School.
While in school Stoogie was dating who would one day become her husband, Roy Ashton Sr. After a few years of dating they then decided to make things more official. They rushed down to the St. Mary's County Court house and became one on May 14, 1981. There was no stopping these two, the balance between them was amazing. His smart mouth and her slick Stoogie was truly loved by her 4 children, Roy A. Ashton, Shamekcia Ashton, Ashley Ashton and Rochelle Ashton. Amongst the children she was blessed with 12 Grandchildren that were crazy about their Grandmother.
Known to many by "Stoogie", ma, friend, aunt, sis and Scooby-Doo. You were always getting something from her whether it was some of her home cooking or some curtain and a comforter set that she has stashed somewhere in the house. No matter what you may have been coming over for you was always open to get some tough love and great advice. Stoogie was a well-rounded woman and I do mean well-rounded by all means. There was not much of nothing that she was not able to do or even try. She took pride in the appearance of her house and her yard. (Especially that front door) she would always yell " y'all better get your kids putting their hands on that door I just cleaned that door go get the Windex. Lets not get on the grass. Never tell her that you will cut her grass because you will never do it right. It has to go at an angel and if you don't do it right, she will be taking the lawn mower right out of your hands to-do it herself. When she wasn't beautifying her home, she liked to do the simple things like go to the thrift store, hang out with her friends, and most of all go on those bus trips to the casino. We never won no money but we just went for the getaway. I am sure that we all have so many precious memories of good times with Stoogie due to the fact that she lived her life to the fullest. She would always enjoy spending time with her grandkids even though they would tear the house apart and she hated that. Get that woman on the dance floor and it would be smoking; she loved to dance and was always up on the latest moves. You never had your hair pressed until it was done by Stoogie. I'm sure that she got your neck and ear a few times but will tell you to stop moving so you don't get burnt. Stooge was always about her family and making sure that everyone was well taken care of and that we were moving as a family. She was blessed to be able to cherish the small things like sitting on her back porch just watching the birds or looking around for something new to paint. Lawd knows that every time you came to her house it would be something different about it. Stoogie was not perfect but in our eyes she was Iconic. She would always say life will not always be easy, just ride out the storm, you got this. Talking about jokes and pranks I swear that must have been something that Roy taught her because she was the Queen at standing her own and some of the most awesome pranks.
Rest peacefully mommy we know that you are looking down on all of use. we will continue to make you proud even in our time of pain. You instilled strength in us and we will continue to use that to set forth 111 our life. Life will never be the same without you but you are always in our hearts and each and every day we know that you are with us. So, mommy we love you, we miss you and we are lucky that you are out personal angel.
Stoogie was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Cradle, step-father Joseph Holton. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children Roy Ashton Jr, Shamekcia Ashton, Ashley Ashton and Rochelle Ashton; two sisters, Renee Holton Gray of Lexington Park MD and Crystal Ali Holton of Waldorf, MD and four brothers, Tyrone Holton of Loveville MD, Tony Holton of Loveville MD, Kevin Miles of Lexington Park, MD and Larry Cradle of California, MD.
