Obituary for Virginia Mary Reid Hayes

Virginia Hayes, 83
Virginia Hayes of Huntingtown, MD died on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick. She was born on Saturday, November 22, 1924 in Maryland to the late Jesse Reid and the late Lydia Jones. She was raised and educated in Calvert County and in later years moved to Washington, D.C.  Virginia worked for the Federal Government for thirty - six years in the civilian personnel office. During her employment she received numerous awards, promotions, and certificates. Her community involvement included her serving as president of the Housing Civic Association. They held many meetings at Calvary United Church where Reverend Minnie Williams was pastor. She also served on three veterans Auxiliaries of which she was the first black in the District of Columbia. Every since she was a young child Virginia gained great joy in attending church. Even while residing in Washington, D.C., she supported her home church and always attended Homecoming Services. She was a devoted member. Virginia also enjoyed making favorable comments about her Pastor, "Reverend Davies; Reverend Davies". She simply admired him. Virginia was forever talking on the telephone - conversing with ex-co-workers and others. She attended the Calvert Pines Senior Center on a regular basis. Virginia was a very likable person - very spiritual and believed in sharing with others. She has done wonderful favors for others, especially her family members. She deserves much credit for the contributions she has made toward her family. Virginia's favorite expression was, "The Good Lord will take care of me!" Her hobbies were reading and traveling. Her favorite hymn was "Jesus on the Mainline, Tell Him What You Want". We have shed many tears since you left us and you will be greatly missed by everyone you have touched. God bless you and may you rest in peace. Memories of you will never be forgotten.
Virginia's survivors include, three sisters, Mable Hebron, Dorothy Claggett, and Florence Thompson (favorite sister); sisters-in-law, Lovelett Reid and Freda Reid; brothers-in-law, James Claggett and Willy Thompson; many devoted nieces and nephews (favorite nephew - Russell Reid, Jr.); other relatives and friends.
