Obituary for Vater M. Wheeler

Vater Mae Thomas-Wheeler of Clinton, Maryland was born May 23, 1942 in Mullins, S.C. Preceded in death by her father, Pete Stackhouse and her grandparents that raised her Boyd and Addie Stackhouse. She departed this life Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC. She was educated in the public schools in Mullins, SC. She married at a very young age and moved to Maryland where she was self-employed.Before her illness you would find Vater working on some kind of project that she had started. She was a hard working woman that didn't let anything stop her or get her down. She didn't have a particular hobby, she liked doing everything, working in her yard, painting, cooking, crabbing, and fixing anything that broke in the house. She also liked rummaging through thrift shops for antiques that she loved restoring. She was a unique, remarkable woman who loved her family unconditionally. She would always go out of her way to help anyone, expecting nothing in return. Vater was a honest and humble woman whose warmth and compassion was felt by all she came in contact with.Vater Wheeler married Bethel Thomas in 1957 and he passed away in 1980. From this union they had four daughters that she leaves to cherish her memory: Addie Leonard (Michael), Gale Rose (Stanley), Eartha Simmons (Butch), Vernica Randall (Charley). She also leaves to cherish her memory her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, special cousins, nieces, nephews, a very special person in her life her sister-in law Virginia Robinson, and other relatives and friends.
