Obituary for Thomas Harry Weems

Thomas Harry Weems, 78, of Lusby, MD passed away on April 27, 2009 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, MD.
He was born on November 12, 1930 to the late Leonard Weems and Grace Chase Weems. "Tom" or T Weems as he was called by many, who knew him, was educated in the public school system of Calvert County, MD. On January 13, 1951, he married Eunice Sutton Weems and from this union they were blessed with nine children. In 1954 he and Irvin Gross became the first independent contractors in the Drum Point area. They worked approximately 30 yrs. together. He later worked for many years at Suburban Homes in Largo, MD with James Buck and Daniel Butler. After years of contracting experience, Tom branched out to operate his own trucking company--called "Weems and Sons." He ran his business for more than 10 yrs. His last job was at Brennan Wells Company in St. Leonard, MD from which he retired.
Tom demonstrated his love for his wife, "Duck", as he would affectionately call her. He meticulously attended to her every need in her illness. He also had a great love for his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighborhood children, and others. Most of all, he showed no favoritism. Most of us can say that you could always find him preparing scrumptious meals on Sundays for those who came by. His homemade rolls were a real treat. Tom was a great storyteller and he would captivate his listeners by spending many hours telling of his experiences and often intrigued us with his many adventures.
In the early 1990's, he joined the Church of God, Lothian, MD. He had a compassion for the Lord. During his last stay in the hospital, he stated "that if the Lord came for me today, I'm fine with the Lord."
Thomas is survived by his loving spouse, of 58 yrs., Eunice; his caring and devoted children, Desi Sr., Frederick, Tyrone, Ivan, and Seth, Fern, Faith, and Hope; sisters, Genevieve Brown, Mary Powell, and Sheila Weems; brothers-in-law, Milton Brown, Edward Powell, GordonTorney; sisters-in-law, Marie Gross, Gertrude Johnson, and Delores Torney; daughters-in-law, Gail, Jane, and Janice; sons-in-law, John Bush, and Frederick Jefferson, Sr.; aunt, Mary Louise Buck; 33 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. A very close cousin, Elsie Kent and Robert Foote, with whom he had a father-to-son relationship.
