each stage of the grieving process.
Thomas Leon Matthews, Jr., aka Mad Dog or Matthew, son of the late Thomas Leon Matthews, Sr. and Helen Arthur London, was born on March 11, 1944 in Washington, DC.
Matthew attended Wiley H. Bates High School in Annapolis, Maryland. He was a professional
ironworker with Local 201 for over forty-two years. He worked for several companies such as Miller & Long, George Hyman, Interlock Steel, and V & V Construction. He also worked for his father-in-law, Lowell Thomas, Sr. with Rebar & Concrete.
On May 27, 1995, Matthew was united in holy matrimony to Shirley Ann Thomas. They were
married for over twenty-two years. Matthew was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He always had encouraging words for everyone he came in contact with.
Matthew truly loved God and the word of God. He joined the Greater Bible Way Church in 1994 under the leadership of the late Apostle Joseph N. & Mother Pearlie M. Brown. He served his final days as a deacon under the leadership of Pastor Neil Gross and Co-Pastor Delethian Gross. He was a member of the Deacon & Brotherhood Club and sang on the Gospel Choir. You could always find him working faithfully around the church.
On Saturday, March 31, 2018, Matthew was called home to be with the Lord. His journey on this side ended quietly at Calvert Health Medical Center in Prince Frederick, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Leon Matthews, Sr. and mother Helen Arthur London, one sister: Judy Burley; two brothers: Melvin and James Matthews; two brothers-in-law, William Parran and Michael Thomas.
