Obituary for THOMAS L. HALL

Thomas L. Hall, 100, of Friendship, MD passed away on September 18, 2011 at South River Health & Rehabilitation Center, Edgewater, MD. He was born in Calvert County, Maryland on August 20, 1911 to the late Rachel Sarah Holland-Hall and Hoover Henry Hall. He was one of 12 children. Thomas celebrated his 100th birthday at the Solomons Conference Center Marina in Solomons, Maryland on August 20th with family and friends. He was given citations from the President of the United States, the Governor of Maryland, Calvert County Commissioners, and several Senators from the State of Maryland. He also received the County flag. Thomas attended Mt. Hope School in Sunderland, Maryland. He started working at a very early age doing odd jobs throughout the county for room and board, and not making much money at all. He worked at Wilson's Sawmill and later went to work on the farm, raising tobacco and working his garden which he loved, until the ground hogs started eating his vegetables. Thomas then said; "If they want to eat vegetables next year they will have to plant the garden themselves." Thomas took pride in his work and although he did not make a lot of money, he always made sure that his family was well taken care of. Thomas truly believed that if you do a job, you should do your very best and don't complain; and the work will get done faster. Thomas was very humble, very kind to everyone and was always encouraging families to love and get to know each other. For many years, you could find him at Coopers Church on Sunday mornings greeting his friends, singing with the Methodist Men and just praising God for all he has done for him. Thomas was married to the late Anternette Contee-Hall. They loved children and raised six-Albert and Hoover Hall; Malana Savoy (Robert); Jay Wallace; Inez Claggett (Thurston); and Tommy Reynolds. None being their own, they just wanted to help family and share their love. He leaves to cherish fond memories two sisters, Dorothy Jones of Washington, DC and Laura Kyler (Robert) of Huntingtown, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, cousins and friends.
