Obituary for THELMA SELENA TYER
Missionary Thelma (Selena) Tyer was born on October 11, 1950, in Prince George's hospital to the late James and Louise Tyer. She was raised by the late Margaret T. Evans. She attended Prince Georges County Public Schools where she graduated from Northwestern High School in 1968. Later in life Thelma (Selena) attended Prince George's Community College.

Thelma (Selena) worked for the State of MD Department of Social Services for more than 40 plus years. She also worked part time for New Horizon as a caregiver for the mentally challenged. She enjoyed helping people in any way she could.

Thelma (Selena) was well loved by many. She had a loving spirit and touched many people lives. She was a giving person, never asking for anything in return. She had a wonderful smile.

Thelma (Selena) loved shopping, especially for purses and shoes. She also loved collecting ink pens. She was a die-hard Eagles fan, and loved good cooking.

Thelma (Selena) joined the Greater Bible Way Church at an early age. She was baptized in Jesus Name by the late Bishop Henry H. Brown and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She served faithfully as a Matron to the late Apostle Joe N. Brown, Social Missionary, Secretary for Baptism, Usher, Choir Member, Church Bulletin Secretary, Cashier, Hospitality Member, and Dance Ministry President. She served her final days under the current leadership of Senior Pastor Neil Gross and Co-Pastor DeLethian Gross.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Louise Tyer, sister Yvonne Tyer-Jenkins, and Margaret Evans.

Thelma (Selena) leaves to cherish her memories three brothers James, Charles, and John Tyer (Florence Tyer); Sister Mary Frances Tyer; Sister-in-Law Florence Tyer; Special Cousin Cynthia Boots; Special nephews John Bowie, Kenny Hawkins, and Jaton Tyer; Special nieces Patricia Jackson-Pierce, Cheryl Murphy, and Charlene Hawkins; God sisters Margaret Gantt and Yvette Waul; four God children James Waul, Michael Arnold (DJ), Leondre Commodore, and Ebony Butler; and host of other nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
