Obituary for Sarah Louise Young

Sarah Louise Young, 91, Lothian, MDNinety-one years ago Sarah Louise Spriggs; fifth child of the late Robert and Mary Louise Spriggs was born on Sunday, October 29, 1916. On Sunday, June 15, 2008, God decided it was time for her to change her residence; so He quietly called her home. She had fought a good fight, she had finished her course, and she had kept the faith: Now there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give her.Louise met and married William Henry Offer Young November 18, 1934, and together they had eight children - William, Sarah, Russell, Edmond, Curly, Regina, Rosia and Cordell She was truly a virtuous woman - rising early while it was yet night, making the fire and preparing breakfast for the family.  Not only did she work in the house, she also worked side-by-side with her husband on the farm.Although a strong disciplinarian, Louise showed her love to her family in many ways.  Her children would rush home after school to get the sugar cookies she often baked. Also, her children loved her raisin dumplings and rice pudding.  Christmas was the time for her delicious root beer and cakes. Louise showed her love also when she administered the fall tonics of cod liver oil, turpentine and sugar and sulfur with molasses. Her children rarely got sick.  She was truly a wife and mother indeed.  She worked as a housewife.Louise was introduced to the Lord at a young age.  She attended Sunday School and church services at Peters United Methodist Church. While in Johns Hopkins hospital, Louise asked God to send one anointed of Him. God told her to take the Bible and study it.  Then He gave her five chapters to read: Proverbs 1, 2, and 3; and St. Matthew 3 and Acts 3.  In 1952, Louise accepted Jesus as her personal savior and joined the Church of God at Lothian. Louise had a zeal for the Lord; she had decided to follow Jesus.  In fact her testimony was to be "just like Jesus". Her thirst for the Lord grew. "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God."  Psalm 42:1 Louise wanted everybody to know about this man Jesus; so she did the work of an evangelist.  She bought spiritual tracks and mailed them to people whose names she got from the telephone book.  Also when she went to the A&P (grocery store) she handed them out. But this work started at home with Louise's own family - mother, siblings and of course her children and then spread abroad. God gave Louise many gifts. However, the one most people may remember is her beautiful voice which she used every chance she got to tell people about the goodness of the Lord through songs as well as through testimonies.  Louise even established a children's choir desiring her children to be members.  She wrote and directed all of the Christmas and Easter Programs the church sponsored during its early years. She was the Director of the Senior Choir for many years and was a member of the "Willing Workers".  Her works are too numerous to list, but God has her record; and Revelation 14:13 says "and their works do follow them". To God be the glory for the life of Louise - mom, grandmom and great grandmom. Preceding her in death were her husband, William; daughter-in-law, Ruth; grandchildren:  Randolph, Michele, Edmond, Jr. Young; DeWayne Holeman; great grandchildren DeWayne Durley and  LaToya Fletcher.  Louise leaves to cherish her memories, children - William, Russell, Edmond, Rosia and Cordell Young, Sarah Bullard, Curly Gilbert and Regina Sollers;18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; 2 daughters-in-law Barbara and Margaret Young; 2 sons-in-law Fred Bullard and Aaron Sollers; 1 brother, Charles Spriggs; 2 sisters, Carrie Hall and Hattie Evans; 1 brother-in-law Joseph Evans; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Whittington; 1 aunt Dorothy Spriggs; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
