Obituary for STANLEY RUSSELL FREELAND
Stanley Russell Freeland was born on February 14, 1931 to the late Anita Creek Freeland and Russell James Freeland in Chaney, Maryland. He was the first of five siblings.
Stanley was educated in the Calvert County Public Schools. He attended the old Hall's Creek Elementary School in Dunkirk, Maryland and William Sampson Brooks High School in Prince Frederick, Maryland. Upon studying brick masonry, Stanley became a Bricklayer by trade. He worked many years throughout and outside of Calvert County. Building closed-in brick mailboxes was one of his specialties.
Stanley was married to the late Annie Mae Contee Freeland and out of this union was born a loving and devoted daughter, Theresa. Stanley was a loving Dad; a challenging Granddad to Antonio, Demetrius and Ashley; and a special Uncle to nephews Carroll Mullen and Michael Spriggs.
Stanley was an avid Billiards (Pool) player. He enjoyed playing with family and friends and would take on anyone who was willing to challenge him, because he already knew he could compete (and win) with the best of them (hence the nickname "Cool Breeze"). He played with his Calvert Pines Buddies in various tournaments in the state of Maryland.
Stanley was an active dance member of the Calvert Pines Senior Center and performed in shows at the Center and Calvert County Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. Stanley also enjoyed challenging is nephew, Michael, at a game of Horse Shoes.
Stanley peacefully departed this life on August 30, 2016, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Annie Mae; father, Russell; mother, Anita; brother, Carroll; sister, Hazel Mullen; brothers-in-law, Richard Mullen and Norris Spriggs.
Left to cherish Stanley's memories are his daughter Theresa Mosby (Harry); three grandchildren, Antonio, Demetrius and Ashley Mosby; two sisters, Sadie Spriggs and Ellen Wills (Isaac "Scott"); sister-in-law, Myrtle Freeland; two brothers in-law, George (Louise) and Albert Contee; Coopers United Methodist Church Family; Calvert Pines Senior Center Family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Stanley will be truly missed by all who knew him. We will always remember his famous words, “Everything will be Alright!”
