Obituary for SHELIA SESKER-BROOKS
Shelia Theresa Sesker-Brooks, lovingly known by her family as "Sheba", "Ma", and "Maw", was born on Wednesday, March 7, 1962 to the late Henry Leon and Mary Sesker at Freedman's Hospital in Washington, DC. In the early morning hours on Sunday, February 2nd, God called Shelia to eternal rest at her home with her husband Eric at her bedside.
Shelia was educated in Anne Arundel County Public Schools and graduated from Southern Senior High School in 1980. She was also a graduate of Chesapeake Business Institute in 1986, earning a diploma in the Office Automated Assistant Program. Shelia was employed at Nordstrom Distribution Center in Upper Marlboro, MD for 19 years, 11 months until her passing.
Shelia was joined in holy matrimony to Eric Brooks on September 22, 2012. Shelia had a heart of gold and loved people; especially spending· time with her sons and grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping· and loved going· to the beach. Shelia was an avid sports fan and passionately supported the KFL team, the Dallas Cowboys. You could find her cheering on the sideline or in the bleachers at both her children's and grandchildren’s sporting events. Her quiet time consisted of watching the ID Channel, the local news, and her two game shows, "America Says" and "25 Words or Less". Prior to Shelia's diagnosis, she would be found hanging out with her two sisters, Nancy and Cynthia and her friend/adopted sister, Gwen. Shelia was a gracious giver and a nurturer, who ensured that her family was taken care of.
Shelia leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy; husband, Eric: sons, Vincent (Nicole) and Shawn (Gabrielle); sisters. Linda Miller (Marvin), Dolores Sesker-Jones (Ellis), Nancy Sesker and Cynthia Claggett (Clyde); seven grandchildren, Isaiah, Marial1, Iyana. Maliyah. Messiah, Amari and Asaun: fathers-in-law. Douglas Brooks Sr. and Benjamin Spriggs: mothers-in-law, Ozelius Spriggs and Clarice Brooks: five brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; 32 nieces and nephews: 23 great nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Thelia Sesker-Jones, and a host of relatives and friends, her dear friend who was like a sister. Preceded in death by: parents, Henry Leon and Mary Sesker; son, Todd Hicks; brothers, Henry Bernard, Larry and Paul Sesker; sister, Beverly Sesker; nephew and godson, Antonio Sesker.
