Obituary for SARAH FRANCES JOHNSON

Sarah Frances Chase Johnson (Sis, Gramps, Grandmommy, Zero) was born on April 10, 1922 to the late John and Emma Chase in Calvert County Maryland and was the second of six children. On Monday evening July 20, 2015, with her two daughters by her side, God gave Sarah her wings. No more suffering and no more pain. She can now walk around Heaven all day.

Sarah attended Wallsville and Central High Schools. She was unable to finish high school because she was called upon by her parents to assist in a domestic capacity and to help care for her younger siblings.

On October 10, 1942, Sarah was united in holy matrimony to the late Eugene Benson Johnson. From this union six children were born. She was known for her loud laughing and talking on the telephone faithfully to her two sisters. They could be together all day, but once they got home, they would call each other again to discuss their outing of the day. When you saw one Chase Sister, you saw all three. They truly loved each other. They were able to sing, I 'll Fly Away, together for the last time at Sarah's 85th birthday and their voices were still very strong. She was famous for standing in front of her stove cooking many tasty meals and doing her canning. Whatever her son Michael brought to the house, it would truly be cooked. Her delicious meals will truly be missed. Most of all, she loved wearing her hats to church. She was known as the "Hat Lady." Her daughter Rita and adopted son Derrell enjoyed their trips to the hat store for many years. It was an honor when the Brooks United Methodist Women's Tea Committee used her hats in a 2013 fashion show. She was also the first secretary for Brothers' Johnson Septic Service in 1988, while still babysitting her grandchildren Everard, Jr. and Alicia. Her favorite television shows were, The Young and the Restless, Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Feud (she knew all the answers) and American Idol (she would talk to Alicia on EVERY commercial).

Sarah became a member of Brooks United Methodist Church at an early age. She was very dedicated to the Brooks Ushers. The last usher's anniversary that she attended, she was sitting in the pew, but when the ushers did their march, she made her way out of the pew to march with them for the last time. Sarah was also a member of the ICUA, Brooks Chorus, United Methodist Women, and the Utopians, who were known for their singing on WANN in Annapolis, Maryland.

Sarah truly loved her grandchildren. She would let them get away with everything. They knew it and they loved it. To have them visit meant so much to her. They would walk in the house and she would say, "Sit down, let me fix you something to eat." So Tony suggested having Grandchildren's Day. The grandchildren agreed and used this day to celebrate her birthday. She would sit on her porch and just enjoy everything they did for her.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; grandson, Ravelle; three brothers, Raymond, Claude and Benson and one sister, Esther Chase. Sarah leaves to cherish her memories, six children: Langford, Everard (Loujeania), Michael (Elaine), Zara, Marietta, Felix (Robin); six grandchildren: Langford, Everard, Jr., Alicia (Anthony), Vaughn (Dominique), Renita and Zachary; eight great grandchildren: Deinez, Langford, Skye, Kayliyahna, Madison, Anthony, Akilah, and Addison; adopted children: Derrell Matthews, Johnny Brooks, Kevin Brooks, Clarence Mackall and Darrel Jackson; one adopted granddaughter that she truly loved, Malinda Willett (No one could comb her hair in the morning, except Malinda); one sister, Edith
Hall and two sisters in-law, Thelma Johnson and Madeline Chase and a host of other relatives and friends.
