Obituary for SARAH ELIZABETH EVANS
Sarah Elizabeth Evans was the third child born to the late George Henry and Mabel Randall Evans on Friday, September 29, 1933. She had 13 other siblings. She grew up in Dunkirk, Maryland and was educated in the public schools of Calvert County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Henry and Mabel Randall Evans; sisters Doris Evans, Carol Giles and Mary Wallace; brothers, Ernest Evans, George Evans, Earnest Evans, Robert Evans, and Joseph Evans.
Sarah was blessed with five children and each child played a special role in her life. Her son Norman was her confidant, her son Larry was her handy man, her daughter Phyllis was her medical secretary, her daughter Janice was her shopping partner and stylist, her daughter Paula was her baby girl, landlord and caregiver.
She was a faithful member of Refuge Church Ministries in Upper Marlboro, Maryland under the leadership of Pastor Phyllis B. Smotherson. At Refuge Church Ministries she met her dear friend Marion Johnson. They talked and laughed at each other on the telephone every day. Her other phone buddies were Barbara Queen and Brenda Stewart.
Her favorite past times were watching soap operas; The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital and Days of Our Lives. She also enjoyed showing off her cooking skills, watching Judge Judy, Hot Bench, Family Feud, and Law and Order SVU. She was always on top of her Facebook posts, daily happenings in the news, commercials, and Giant 3-day sales.
On Friday, May 17, 2019 at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Maryland, God, in his infinite wisdom saw it fitting to call Sarah into the beautiful sunset of immortality. So, we come today to mourn her death but we also come to celebrate her life. She touched thousands of lives in an impressive manner and her benevolent acts will be sorely missed.
Left with loving memories and to rejoice at her triumphant entry into eternal life are sons, Norman Evans (Thelma) and Larry Spriggs (Sandra). Her daughters, Phyllis Sewell, Janice Rakes (George) and Paula Franklin; granddaughters, Roshonne Sewell-Brown (Reuben), Dominique Evans, Tarell Spriggs and Amber Spriggs; grandsons, Larry Spriggs Jr., and Jamarr Mills; great-grandchildren, Keith Nick Jr., DayAnni Nick, and Allahna Brown; sister Nancy M. Wallace and brothers, Levi Evans, Leroy Evans, Daniel Evans (Alice), Warren Evans (Ruth) and Richard Evans (Martha).
She also leaves to mourn her memories the Whittington family, whom she loved and nurtured in Dunkirk, Maryland. The youngest of that family, Ginny was affectionately known as her spoiled baby girl. She had a special “Ma Sarah” relationship with Shauntai Parker, James Mills IV, Terry Coward, Whitney Goss, Ateia Green, Vanessa Turner and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Yes, we will say good-bye to her without regrets, rejoicing in the blessed years she was given to us. For her spirit will be with us always. Until we meet her again, we will rejoice in the light of God’s presence.
