Obituary for RUTHIA MARIE JONES
RUTHIA MARIE WALLACE was born on May 2, 1942 in Calvert County, Maryland to the late Grant S. (Winnie) and Hilda V Wallace: She was the seventh child of nineteen children (16 girls and 3 boys). She peacefully entered eternaJ rest on Saturday, February 2, 2019.
She was educated in the Public Schools of Calvert County and was a 1960 graduate of Brooks High School. After high school, she moved to Washington, DC to be a nanny.
Ruthia worked as a domestic worker for over 40 years and later became a caregiver with the Arc of Southern Maryland where she retired after 12 years of service. Later at the age of 75, she worked as a caregiver with the Senior Companions Program until she became ill in 2017.
In 1967 she married Leon Norvell Jones and from this union they were blessed with four children; Angela, Fanette, Jeter and Kervin.
She was a devoted mother to her children and had a strong work ethic. Ruthia worked long hours, but she always made time for her children, ensuring they attended church and events at school.
Ruthia enjoyed spending time with her family. She along with her children, enjoyed spending summer vacations with her sister Dorothy (Cevis) Hall in Belair, Maryland. She also spent a lot of time with her sister Willia Mae Plater; shopping, talking on the phone to check up with each other daily, and attending functions at church. Her favorite activities included going on trips with her family; shopping, going on outings with her sisters and dear friends, Chris Johnson and Tecora (Patty) Evans.
Ruthia loved listening to gospel music, reading her bible, watching her favorite game shows and Bishop Darnell Easton on television; especially when she became ill and couldn't go to church regularly.
During her early years, Ruthia was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. She was a faithful member of Bethel Way of the Cross Church for over 50 years, where she was baptized in Jesus name on May I, 1968. She served as an usher and member of the Pastor's, Senior and Sisterhood Choirs.
Ruthia had a big heart and will be remembered for always being willing to help others. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by many family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories; three children; Angela, Fanette, and Jeter (Charmane), two grandsons: Cory Wills, and Vazquan T. Richardson; one granddaughter: Courtney Wills one great grandson: Trey Taylor; Godson Jordan Barlow and adopted sons Charles Johnson and Terry Butler. Siblings: Edith Wallace, Dorothy Hall (Leon-deceased), Agnes Jefferson (Alfred), Aubrey Wallace (Elizabeth), Thelma Jones (Arthur Lee), Dale Morsell (Timothy), Rondallyn 'Wallace, Oswald (Tommy) Spriggs (Rita) - (nephew, raised by her parents); aunts, Nina Reid, Helen Ray, and Shirley Jones. Special friends: Goldie Hawkins (neighbor), Mother Emma Easton, Chris Johnson and Tecora (Patty) Evans, Gloria Parker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family and friends.
Her extended families, the late Norval and Mildred jones and William (Joseph) and Goldie Hawkins. Her adopted family; the late joseph and Viola Easton family.
Preceding her in death: son, Kervin Douglas J ones (at birth); sisters, Martha j ones (Floyd), Willia Mae Plater (Kenneth), Arie Ida Hall (Paul), Iola Wallace-Jackson, Rosemary Wallace and Janice Wallace; brothers, Stanley Wallace and Wilson Wallace, 4 siblings (death at birth) and dear friend Mother Mildred Harmon.
