Obituary for RUTH MASON
God saw you getting tired so he called you to come home. You left this earthly body and went to a better home.
Ruth Janey Mason departed her life on June 5, 2015. Born to the late Samuel and Eliza Janey. She attended the one room schoolhouse in Wallville. She would walk to school daily and was the only living woman of color who attended that school. She graduated from the original Brooks High School at the 8th grade level. At an early age she joined Brooks United Methodist Church.
On June 25, 1938, George Mason and Ruth Janey were united in marriage. From this union they were blessed with five daughters, Shirley, Velma, Susanna, Marylou, and Pamela. She was fortunate to be able to stay home to raise her children, grandchildren, and great -grandchildren. This was a joy for her.
She enjoyed going to camp meetings at the church when her sister would come down. She enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team with her sister –the Orioles. They would get really excited about the games. She enjoyed life with her family which included six generations - with many still living here in Calvert County. When you would walk into her house, she would always greet you with a smile on her face.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Mason, daughters Shirley Mason, Susanna Jefferson and Mary Lou Mason, sisters Estella Gross, Susan Gross, one brother George Janey, and granddaughter Tracy Phillips.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Velma Mason and Pamela Randall (Michael); 21 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; a devoted nephew Daniel Butler, Jr.; one brother-in-law Blondell Mason; a devoted great niece Vanessa Willett; a special grandson Eric Mason; very special friends, Betsy Washington, Lucy Wallace, Romey and Jane Washington, and Ephonia Wills; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
