Obituary for ROBERTA I. BROWN
On Monday, March 15, 2010, at 5:15 in the morning, God sent his angels to gather Roberta Brown to her new home, where pain and suffering is a thing of the past and gladness eternally lasts.
Roberta was born on February 19, 1924 to the late Randy Keemer and Edith Brown Keemer in Willows, Maryland. She was the tenth of twelve children.
In 1938 Roberta met and married the late Rev. Howard Jack Brown Jr. Together they had eight children.
She attended the public schools of Calvert County for a short period.
Roberta began working at the age of eight and has worked hard all her life. She worked faithfully with her husband on the farm, did domestic work and was a cook at Edwald's Restaurant in North Beach for twenty years.
She was kind and loving. Often times she would deny herself to give to others. Besides caring for her eight children, she took in four nephews and three grandsons and nurtured them until they were grown. She was lovingly called "MaBerta" by most of her grandchildren and others.
Roberta's love for God was always first. Her Christian journey began at an early age in St. Edmonds Church. She loved the Lord and was faithfully committed to serving God and pleasing Him in all she did. She was a member of the Society of Christian Women (United Methodist Women) and was always happy to do whatever she could.
Roberta enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Her fried chicken, potato salad, greens and bread pudding were famous. She loved gardening both vegetables and flowers.
Roberta leaves with loving memories; eight children, Cora Drumgo, Sarah Gross, Hannah (Don) Rogers, Baltimore, Sadie Syffus, Florida, Mable Ashong, Florida, Howard J. Brown, III, Capital Heights, Martin Brown and Tyrone Brown (Koren); eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Madeline Samuels, New York, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by all of her sisters and brothers and sons in law, Clifton Gross, John Drumgo, and George Rogers.
