Obituary for ROBERT LEROY RAWLINGS
ROBERT (BOBBY) LEROY RAVVLIKGS passed away on December 23, 2019 in his home in Sunderland, MD.
Bobby was born on October 7, 1938 in Calvert County, MD lo the late Gladys Rawlings Adams and Stanley Scott. He attended Calvert County public schools and graduated from Brooks High School in 1956.
He voluntarily joined the United States Army, where he was on active duty for three years and received honorable discharge in 1959. He was honored to have served in the Army and proudly wore his veteran's pin wherever he went. After leaving the service he worked as a Laborer at the Navy Base in Chesapeake Beach, MD.
In 1960, he met his wife Shirley Freeland and they wed in April 1962, going on to have four children, Durwood, Rhonda, Brigitte and Deena.
Bobby worked as a Carpenter for most of his life. He received The Architect's Award for Teamwork from Architect of the Capitol for outstanding teamwork in the renovation of the Dirksen Senate Office Building, as well as a certificate of appreciation for outstanding performance in the creation of the new House Learning Center in Washington, D.C. in 2002. He was a long-time member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America - Local Union No. 132. He was also an active member for 18 years at the American Legend Gray Ray Post 220, where he helped with their annual bull roast.
Bobby enjoyed watching baseball, football and car racing. After retiring in 2007, he continued doing various carpentry projects and working on old cars, including his ''Jive 75" Corvette.
Anyone who knew Bobby, knew that he was quiet, but had a sense of humor and didn't complain about anything. No matter what was going on, he would often say "It don't mean nothing". He was a strong, dedicated and loving husband and father and very hard worker. Bobby leaves to cherish his memories; loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Shirley, four children; Durwood, Rhonda (Mark) Saunders, Brigitte and Deena; three grandchildren, Ashley, Briana and Laiya and one great grandchild, A'Mya.
He is survived by, siblings Doris Adams Davidson, Earlene (Leonard) Greene, Renee (Brenton) Service, Marvin (Jacqueline), Winfield (Rita), Glenwood (Faye) and Lenwood Adams; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by; mother, Gladys Rawlings Adams; father, Stanley Scott; Stepfather, Joseph Adams; brothers Joseph, Jr. and Kermit Adams; Grandparents Thomas and Gertrude Rawlings.
