Obituary for ROBERT L. JACKSON

Robert Louis Jackson was born on November 8, 1942, to Flora and Duree Jackson in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The eldest child of five siblings, Robert, nicknamed "Bashie" by his immediate family growing up, was educated in Pennsylvania public schools, and graduated with his high school diploma.

After graduation, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961, where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1966. After his service, Robert joined the Washington, DC Police Department where he worked as a detective in the homicide unit. During this time, Robert fostered invaluable friendships that would last a lifetime. After retiring from the police department, Robert worked in the Prince George's County Public School system in Maryland as a security officer at Parkdale High, where he was not only a favorite amongst the staff, but amongst the students as well.

According to all who knew him throughout every phase of his life, Robert was truly a joy to be around. He was very selfless and would give you his last, whatever your needs were. Overall, Robert was an amazingly heartfelt man, but also a pragmatic, no-nonsense person who believed it was each of our responsibilities to be the best we could be. He did not accept any excuses for one falling short of one's best and always led by example.

His passion for sports cars and the Pittsburgh Steelers (due to his western PA roots) was undeniable. His other favorite pastimes included: watching wrestling, old western TV shows, and the Simpsons, all while enjoying his favorite snacks (popcorn, ice cream and banana pudding pie), as well as sitting back, laughing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as "Pop Pop."

God called Robert home to his eternal resting place on Monday, August 13, 2018.

Robert, leaves behind to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 21 years, Gloria Jackson; six children: Lisa L. Jackson, Denise M. Bowie, Robert L. Jackson II (Chris), Marcia P. Claggett (Timothy), Lakeisha A. Jones, and Devin J.W. Griffin; five grandchildren: Phil, Donnie, Shante (Cartier), Timothy and KaLei; two great-grandchildren: Cartier II and Carver; four siblings: Linda Jackson-Peterson, Carl Jackson (Karen), Duree Jackson (Jacqueline) and Roland Jackson (Beatrice); and two immensely close friends: William Griffith, known to the family as Billy Bob, and Richard Smith. In addition, Robert leaves behind a host nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Robert, was preceded in death by his mother and father, Flora and Duree, and his nephew, Dougie.

Robert will forever be missed, but through family and friends, his spirit will live on.
