Obituary for RICKY L. MACKALL, SR.
Ricky Lee Mackall was born on August 26, 1962 to the late Robert Lee Murray and Vernell V. Johnson. On August 13, 2021 he quietly departed this life with his family at his side.
The second of 5 siblings, Ricky grew up in Huntingtown, MD amongst a family of cousins with rivalries and fun times on Pop Contee and Momma Marie Mackall's land. He was educated in Calvert County Public School and finished his GED through Northern High School, Owings Md. Upon completing High School, Ricky started his painting career with Palmer Brothers and later became self-employed and Owner of R&C Painting. In 1992 he shared partnership with his brother Charles Johnson.
Throughout his life, Ricky had several hobbies. He loved racing and automobiles and spent a lot of time at Budd's Creek International Raceway. He took pleasure in the fact he would be the first to purchase the latest ride; trading in his current model for the new as soon as it hit the dealership lot. He and cousin Kim purchased their Mazda and Maxima at the same time. He also enjoyed driving his motorcycle with friends; Aubrey Robinson, Ernest Washington, Thomas Johnson, and Marshall and Anthony Cooper. Another love was hunting; this time was accompanied with close friend Marshall, his cousins, Donald and Stevie and brother Charles. If you ever visited his home, you could not help but notice his love for music. He had speakers all throughout the house and received helped with music from his cousin Brown who he liked to DJ with.
Ricky loved football; like most families with that divide of Redskin and Cowboy fans; he could be found cheering for the Washington Redskins with his mother Vernell where he spent time enjoying her Sunday dinners.
As a proud father of four, Ricky Jr., Rickeyda, Alea and Jonathan, he enjoyed spending time at Amusement Parks especially Kings Dominion with his kids. He took Ricky Jr. to his first NHRA drag race at the age of twelve riding with the Cooper brothers to Maple Grove PA; Ricky Jr. remembers finding his passion for racing that day. He also recalls watching the scanners go up and down as his dad and Uncle Tommy raced their motorcycles against others and how proud he was of having the job of letting them know when the policemen were coming. It always feels good to have your parents tell you that they are proud of you. Ricky never failed to tell all his children how proud he was of each one of them.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents Vernell Johnson and Robert Lee Murray. He leaves to cherish his memories, 4 children; Ricky Mackall Jr., Rickeyda Mackall (mother Guendolyn Johnson), Alea Reed and Jonathan Reed (mother Towanda Reed). 3 Brothers; Lionel Mackall of Prince Frederick, MD, Cedric Mackall (Ella) of Lexington Park, MD, and Charles Johnson of Newburg, Md and 1 sister, Vernell Commodore (husband Leonard) of Waldorf, MD. Ricky comes from a large family and leaves memories with a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed by his close cousin Nook (Edward) Stepney.
