Obituary for PHILIP T. RAY

Philip T. Ray was born on February 2, 1935 to the late Elma and Lettie Ray in
Huntingtown, Maryland. He departed this life at home on Thursday, June 18,
20 I 5. Philip was affectionately known by most as Phil, Mr. Phil or Uncle Ellis.

Philip was educated in the Calvert County Public Schools. After his school
years Philip moved to New York and remained in Long Island until his
retirement. He was employed with the New York Paper Company. After
retirement, he moved to Aiken South Carolina and became a permanent
fixture in the community. Philip also had a lawn care service.

Philip was a devoted family man, who loved his children, grandchildren and
extended family. His favorite past-times were watching wrestling and spending
numerous hours with his grandchildren.

Philip attended St. Edmonds United Methodist Church in Chesapeake Beach,
Maryland in his early years. He also visited St. Edmonds whenever he was in
Maryland. He later became a member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in
Martin, South Carolina where he was baptized.

Philip leaves to cherish his memories: A loving and devoted wife Barbara
Jackson Ray; children; Philip Chaun Drayton, Alfrieda Jackson, Nikki Jackson,
Sharelle Ramsey, Gregory Dunbar Jackson Taycerria Dunbar Jackson, Weldon
Drayton, Myra Woolridge, Sanford Drayton (Tee), Donald Whitmore (Sonia),
Cheryl Whitmore, Derek Whitmore (Stephanie), Pearl Whitmore and Kenton
Whitmore; twenty-nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother;
Daniel Ray Sr.; sister-in-laws: Kathleen Ray and Corine Ray: Phil ip was
preceded in death by siblings: Deloris, Eugene, Robert, Roosevelt, Columbus,
Raymond, Benjamin, Genevieve, Florence, Hattie, Eva and Dorothy; and a host
of nieces, nephews, adopted children, relatives and friend; two special friends
Katie Dixon and Louis Parker.
