Obituary for PEARL VIRGINIA SMITH
Pearl Virginia Smith was born in Willows, Maryland on August 6, 1947 to the late Hamilton and Myrtle Smith. She peacefully departed this life at her home in Washington, DC on Saturday, August 31, 2019.
Pearl graduated from Brooks High School where she was a proud member of her beloved 1965 graduating class. Afterwards, in 1968, she received a management certification from Cortez Peter Business College in Washington, DC.
In her early twenties, Pearl accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Personal Savior, and was baptized at Upper Room Baptist Church. On January 7, 2018 she joined the Alexander Memorial Baptist Church. She was an active member who attended worship services on a consistent basis.
Pearl worked 39 years for the United States Government Printing Office where she served as Chief of Payroll. She retired in 2006, and then returned as a contractor for another 10 years. It was well established that she was dedicated and committed to her job. She was a hard worker and imparted her work ethic to her daughter and grandchildren.
An avid bowler, Pearl was a member of the F. I. B. A. Club for over 25 years where she was affectionately known as "Pooh Bear. " Her other pastimes included both traveling and playing bingo.
Pearl was a compassionate woman with a big heart. She poured into the lives of everyone that crossed her door. She was always known to extend her heart and a helping hand to her family and friends anytime she was needed. More than anything, she loved being a mother to her daughter, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. While she may not have been wealthy, she was rich beyond measure in both spirit and love. She will truly be missed and loved forever.
She leaves behind a wealth of memories to be cherished by her daughter; Angela C. Smith-Wheeler, one son in-law; David J.
