Obituary for PATRICIA ANN LATIMORE
PATRICIA ANN LATIMORE peacefully entered into New Life with Christ on Monday, January 27, 2020 in Clinton, Maryland.
Patricia, affectionately known to many as Pat, Pat Lat, or Oldest Sister was born to the late Vernon T. and Elizabeth Stubbs Christian on November 3, 1940. Pat was reared in Hyattsville, Maryland and received the sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation at St. Jerome's Catholic Church. Pat was educated in the Prince George's County Public Schools System. Pat welcomed her only child, George Leo Christian, into a large and loving family, and they shared many years of joy together. No mother could have asked for a more devoted son.
On November 4, 1967, Pat was united in Holy Matrimony to Samuel J. Latimore. This union endured for almost 53 years until Pat went home to be with the Lord.
Pat primarily worked in the retail industry. She was employed at the Hecht Company and Woodward & Lothrop for several years. In 1969 Pat joined the Hahn Shoe Company team where she remained until retiring at the Supervisory level from their corporate office in Landover, Maryland. During Pat's tenure at Hahn's the Family wore NOTHING but Hahn's Shoes.
Pat loved music and in the late 1970's she began her DJ career at Dave's Supper Club in Glenarden, Maryland under the name of the "Godmother of Soul', where she experienced much success.
For 32 years, Pat was a loyal and faithful member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 275, serving in many capacities. She was a dedicated member of the Post Color Guard and was also directly responsible for recruiting numerous family members. Pat was a regular patron at the original Post home and was one of the first to enter the new building, where she secured her very own seat at the end of the bar. Pat actually purchased the first beer ever sold at the new post home and this is verified by a picture of the dollar bill, autographed by her, which she used to pay for it. This picture is posted on the wall at the back of the bar.
In 1980 our family club, The Third Generation, was formed to celebrate the joy and blessings of family and in thanksgiving to our ancestors, Harry and Mary Stubbs, and their 12 children, our parents. Pat was a proud and active member and we, the Third, will greatly miss her. Pat enjoyed life to the fullest and will be fondly remembered for her phone calls that started with her greeting of 'This is your oldest sister calling to wish you a Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, or Happy New Year". Whatever the occasion, she never missed calling and now she has been blessed to answer the final call.
From the onset of Pat's illness until her passing, George and his wife, Carolyn, dedicated themselves to her care. Before and during her journey the visits from her grandchildren and great, grandchildren along with numerous others, brought her tremendous joy. She especially loved for Zoei to comb her hair and show her family pictures on her phone. Pat will be hugely missed by many.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Elizabeth; sister, Gloria Smith; and brothers, Donald Stubbs and Maurice Christian. Pat's memory will be cherished by her loving husband, Samuel; devoted son, George; daughter-in-law, Carolyn; two grandchildren Cavin and Nicole; three grandchildren, Jay, Zoei, and Maliah; four brothers, Alonzo Christian, Charles Christian (Kate), Morris and William Stubbs; six sisters, Rita Barber, Romaine Lucas, Phyllis Colclough (Jimmie), Janice, Diane, and Veronica C. Stubbs; two uncles and three aunts, George Stubbs (Iris), Raymond Stubbs (Mildred), Blanche Stubbs; and a host of other relatives and lifelong friends.
