Obituary for OLIVER E. HOLLAND
Oliver E. Holland, 79, of Chesapeake Beach, MD passed away on November 6, 2011 at his residence. He was born in the Willows in Chesapeake Beach, MD on March 13, 1932 to the late James Owen and Ethel Thomas Holland. He grew up and was educated in the public school system of Calvert County. While attending elementary school, he met Mary Catherine Brooks. They became good friends and with the progression of time the friendship grew into a more meaningful relationship and the two fell in love. They were united in marriage on January 14, 1959 and of this union were born two children, Christine and Lorenzo. Oliver was very family oriented. He enjoyed family dinners and gatherings and time talking and communicating with them. He was a loving husband and caring father whose ultimate purpose was to provide for his family. He was industrious and worked many years as a cement finisher for Charles E. Smith Companies and Haverhill Construction, from which he retired in 1993. Oliver was a man with an excellent spirit and an overwhelming smile. He was very compassionate and approachable. He was extremely friendly and loved people. On many occasions the neighborhood children would come over and he would enjoy conversations with them and watch them as they shot basketball. Also, he would spend hours at the Dash-In on route 260 keeping company and policing the premises to assure the workers had a sense of security. Oliver loved the Lord and became an active member of St. Edmonds United Methodist Church. Later, in 1986, he became a member of the Church of God in Lothian, MD. He was a devoted steward and one of impeccable character. Because he was found worthy, he was appointed to the service of Deacon where he served with the utmost honor and integrity. He was a superintendent of the grounds and assured that the property was neatly kept. He also served as parking attendant whenever needed. He faithfully carried out his duties until his health disallowed him. He leaves precious and fond memories to his loving and caring wife, Mary; son, Lorenzo (Annessex (Cookie)); daughter, Christine (Clarence (Owen)); three grandchildren, Demetrius, Christopher, and Dominick; two great-grandsons, Isaiah and Demetrius; godson, Matthew White, Jr.; two brothers, Leroy (Marthalene) and James (Cortora); five sisters, Virginia Thomas (Earl), Bertina Mackall, Donna Harrod, Rose Holland; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Nelson and Florence Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
