Obituary for Montell Sherman Fletcher

Montell Sherman Fletcher was born on December 28, 1915 to the late Bertha Johnson and Asbury Fletcher, in Baltimore, MD.On April 27, 1940, Montell was joined in matrimony to Valerie Brooks. From that union they had ten children, four boys and six girls, residing in Huntingtown, MD.Montell was a Farmer by Trade. He was also employed at Chalk Point in Morgantown, MD and Bechtel Power Plant in Lusby, MD. He was affiliated with the Farmers Association of America and also a member of Local 832.His favorite hobbies included fishing, gardening, viewing ball games and spending time with some of his closest friends, James Hicks, McKinley Mackall and Geahardt Kent. He attended Bethel Way of the Cross Church and was baptized on November 19, 1987 under the leadership of Bishop Jacob Green. With the onset of illness, he took to reading his Bible at home.Montell departed this life early Sunday morning at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD, with loving granddaughter and special caretaker, Clarice Brooks, by his side.He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Valerie Fletcher of Huntingtown, MD. Nine children, Carlise Brooks, Huntingtown, MD, Bertha Collins, Baltimore, MD, Robert Fletcher, Sierra Vista, AZ, Lillian Benjamin, Lanham, MD, Joseph Fletcher, Huntingtown, MD, Janice Nutter, Nanticoke, MD, Velma Knight, Landover Hills, MD, Linda White, Prince Frederick, MD, Marvin Fletcher, Baltimore, MD, and a son who preceded him in death, Page Fletcher, Sr., Huntingtown, MD.  Four daughters-in-law, Marian, Clarice and Gladys Fletcher and Leanna Shulkins. Four sons-in-law, Robert Collins, Merton Benjamin, David Nutter and William White. Three brothers, Elwood, Hubert, Ernest Ward and two brothers and a sister who preceded him in death, Clifford Ward, William Fletcher and Velma Savage. Three sisters-in-law, Zora Hicks, Helen and Mae Ward. Two brothers-in-law, Wydee Jerry Chase and James Hicks. Two nephews raised as his own, Glenwood Brooks (Marion), and Larry Brooks (Essie), both of Huntingtown, MD. One grandchild also raised as his own, Clarice Brooks (Theodore), Huntingtown, MD. A host of grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
