Obituary for Mary Helen Harrod

Mary Helen Harrod, 60, of Lusby, MD departed this life on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at her residence. She was the second oldest daughter of the late George W. Harrod, Sr. and Helen Mae Wallace Harrod.
Mary Helen was given the nickname "Mousie" at an early age. She attended the Calvert County Public Schools. Mary Helen graduated in 1966, the last class of William Sampson Brooks High School. In her early years she became a member of Bible Way Church, Prince Frederick, MD. During that time she was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Bishop Henry H. Brown and Minnie L. Brown. When Bishop Joseph N. Brown and Mother Pearlie M. Brown became leaders she occasionally fellowshipped and enjoyed going to the church conventions.
Mary Helen had a tremendous amount of love for her mother, daughters, grandchildren and siblings. She was a generous and kind spirited indivdual. Ecclesiastics 3:1 - To everything there is a season and time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born and time to die. Her battle with cancer had begun approximately three years ago. What man said would be a short while, God granted her extended time. Each day it gave her pleasure to call, check and chat with her sister, Judy, who she adored. The family would visit or call. We'd say, "Mary, how are you doing? And she would reply "I am doing just fine." Even as her pain increased, her response remained the same, never once did she complain.
She truly enjoyed the old church service videos, prayer and being anointed with oil, the reading of scriptures and singing of songs. We are indeed grateful to God for allowing her extended time. Through her battle with cancer, God saw to us becoming a better and stronger family. We are thankful to have shared family gathering, laughter and most of all having the opportuniity to love up on one another.
"Mary" you have gone the last mile, but cancer didn't win, you did. Through your battle we all became better. Your struggle with cancer is over. You can rest now.
She was preceded in death by her father, George W. Harrod, Sr. and brother, Clayton Harrod.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Her mother, Helen M. Harrod; two daughters, Iris (Victor Woodland) and Georgia (Autoria Booth); three grandchildren, Trabin Parker, Briston Booth and Jasmine Booth; eight sisters, Annie M. Gross, Delois Johnson, Phyllis Dawkins (George), Joyce Weems (Samuel), Sandra Long (Louis), Judy Harrod, Carolyn Gantt, and Patricia Harrod; four brothers, George W. Harrod, Jr., Leonard S. Harrod, Levi Harrod, and Tyrone Harrod; four uncles, Calvin "Sonny" (Elsie), Obie (Carolyn), Herman (Hilda), and Thomas (Ruth); four aunts, Thelma, Bertha, Ruth, and Mertina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
