Obituary for MELVIN LEROY BRIGHT

Melvin, known as Melvin Lee to many, was born December 2, 1952, in Port Republic, MD to the late John and Charlotte Bright. He was the second eldest son of 12 children and the first to enter into the Navy to serve his country in the ocean within a powerful source of nature. Melvin departed this life in the early watchman hours of February 26,2015.

Melvin was educated in the Calvert County Public School system and was self-taught in other skills. As a child, he had been into cars and anything that traveled on wheels, whether it was at a race track such as Capital, Budd's Creek, Englishtown or street racing on back roads in the county. It was the sound of a revved up engine, the make and model, or simply the tires and its wheels screeching on the pavement. He worked various jobs with a multitude of skills from a seaman mechanic to construction to the tile industry.

On April 26, 1973, he was married to Shirley and had 7children throughout their 20-year marriage. Although they divorced in 2002, he never forgot his children or Shirley. The most important thought here is that he learned what it meant to be a father during the latter part of his life, because he had the love and support of his children. Shirley encouraged realization to what needed to be, no matter what transpired in their lives post marriage.

Melvin enjoyed his family, family reunions, holidays, watching cars speed down the track, and living life the way he saw his journey . When life began to speak with a loud voice, he could not ignore its demands for change. lie met life's changes with a different outlook on how it must be with his family and friends. Some of his contributions to his family were paying for David's education at Salisbury University, helping those that were financially short, purchasing gifts for different holidays, and appreciating how his children took him around to enjoy the company of his friends, Raymond Manuel, Joe Belt and Paul Wilson.

When the watchman's hour at the gate of life came to an end, Melvin left his earthly home to join others whom preceded him. Leaving to continue the journey are his children; Sonia, Lisa, Sarah, Theresa, Melvin, John, David and grandsons, Sean and Derrick. He leaves behind his sons-in-law, Richard and Schooner. He leaves behind his sisters, Cynthia and Sarah, brothers; James, Franklin, Dean, Don, and Howard, and Mark, god children, Marsha Rivers and Danielle Johnson, and a host of sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, cousins, aunts, uncles, nephew and nieces and many more relatives.
