Mattie Elizabeth Henson, daughter of the late Cecilia and Preston Henson, was born October 3,1920, in Calvert County, Maryland. God in His infinite wisdom called Mattie home on January 11, 2010 at 8:42 a.m., after a lengthy illness.
Mattie received her education in the Calvert County Public School System.
She was an entrepreneur. She owned Kyler's Tavern in Huntingtown, Maryland. She was also a school Bus Contractor for Calvert County School System. She also was a mail carrier for Calvert County. In the 1960's she moved to Baltimore City. She was employed with the United States Postal Service and held the position of Performance Analysis in Washington DC, where she retired in 1977.
She was a member of Patuxent United Methodist Church and after moving to Baltimore she joined Calvary Baptist Church on Garrison Boulevard where she remained a faithful member until her illness.
Mattie was a very kind, compassionate and God-fearing woman. She was always there when you needed her loving and kind advice. She loved to cook for anyone who visited her, a down home meal. She enjoyed sitting back and watching you enjoy her cooking. ("What a joy")
