Mary Ruth Gross was born on September 8, 1951 in Prince Frederick, Maryland, to Mary L. Hawkins and John Gross. She died at home on March 6, 2017.
Mary was educated in both the Calvert County, Maryland and District of Columbia public school systems. She worked at "Linens of the Week" for a number of years, and later worked at the Pentagon, the White House and then at the Executive Office Building until she passed away. All together she acquired 27 years of federal service.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Mary Hawkins and John Gross; her grandmother and grandfather: Beatrice and Earl Thomas; and two brothers, Anthony and Robert Hawkins.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons: Irving and Leonard Hawkins, of Washington DC; one sister, Doris Mackall of Prince Frederick, Maryland; four brothers, Edward Mackall (Jerice), Linwood Harrod, Ronnie Hawkins and Spencer Hawkins; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; special friends: Joyce Martin, Alverta Scott, Vernice Ward, Charles Yeargin, and Clara Jones; a special niece Patricia Millard and nephew, David Smith.
