Obituary for MARY MARGARET BOURNE
Mary Margaret Bourne was affectionately known by family and friends as Mary, Mom Mary, Little Mary, Grandma, Grandma B, Little Momma, Aunt Mary and Shorty; she gladly answered to all. She was born in Calvert County, Maryland on August 26, 1924 to the late Thomas: Mackall Gray and Helen Tanner Bannister Gray. She was the last surviving daughter. She was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on September 8, 2018.
She joined Brooks United Methodist Church at an early age. She was a faithful and active member of the Senior Choir, Brooks Chorus, and the United Methodist Women. You could find her fully dressed and praising the Lord any given Sunday until her health declined. Mom truly loved the Lord. Her favorite hymn was the "Old Rugged Cross''. She also loved gospel music groups such as the Canton Spirituals, Willie Banks and the Messengers, and the Pilgrim Jubilees to name a few.
She was educated in the Calvert County Public School System at the Old Pink School in Island Creek, MD.
She had an array of occupations to include being a Domestic Worker and a Clam Shucker. She was employed at Calvert Memorial Hospital in 1969, and retired, September 1, 1986 as Head Cook. Later she worked as a Senior Companion for the Office on Aging. Mom loved being a companion for others by "speeding" up and down the road taking them to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and Senior Centers. She was an Uber driver before the name became famous.
Mary was married to the late Edward Theodore Bourne, Sr. She had nine children whom she adored. You could find them gathered around the dinner table on any Sunday enjoying her cooking. She will forever be remembered for her one of a kind biscuits and delicious cakes, there was always room for you at her table.
Mary loved gardening, the Baltimore Orioles, the Washington Redskins, and hosting family gatherings. Mom loved posing for pictures and dancing with her family and friends. As God would have it, on August 26, 2018 she celebrated her 94th birtl1day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tracey and Devonna Franklin hosted by her son-in-law Ben Boyd better known as "Boo Boo" to her; surrounded by family and friends. She was so excited about the event that she sang "Happy Birthday" to herself and let everyone know she was 94 years old and to "Praise the Lord!" Mom will be greatly missed, but always remembered for her generosity, loving heart, and most importantly being the matriarch for the family.
Mom leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, her Children: Teresa Williams, Shirley Bourne, Theodore Bourne (Carolyn), Doris Boyd (Benjamin), Darlene Collins, Chester Bourne (Annette), and Edwardine Commodore (Thomas); one Brother Harry Gray (Christine), and Son-in-law Charles Washington; 18 Grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
