Obituary for MARCELLUS DONELL GROSS
Marcellus Donell Gross, affectionately known as Donell or Socks, was born in Prince Frederick, Maryland on March 9, 1965 to George Gross and Evelyn Brooks Smith. In the early morning hours on Tuesday March 19, 2019, God sent his angel and called Donell home.
Donell attended school in Calvert County, MD. As a child, Donell was an active member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church where he sang on the choir. In his early years, Donell enjoyed playing football, softball, and basketball. He often bragged about how he could beat everyone in the neighborhood. Donell attend Job Corps, and worked various jobs including Victor Stanley, Smith Lumber Company, and Ace Hardware Store. After several health related issues, he retired from full-time work. Donell took up gardening and never missed his favorite daytime television shows "The Price Is Right" and "The Young and the Restless." He also enjoyed fishing and cooking. Donell loved watching "The Washington Redskins", as they were his favorite football team.
On March 9, 1990, Donell celebrated his birthday with the birth of his only child Desheia Rochelle Gross, who was the love of his life. Donell was a loving father and grandfather. He loved to have fun; and always wanted to make you laugh. Donell was just a fun loving kind of guy.
Donell was preceded in death by his sister: Pamela Rochelle Mackall. He leaves to cherish his memories, his parents George Gross (Theresa) and Evelyn Smith; one daughter - Desheia Rochelle Gross; seven sisters - Janell Smith, Michelle Bowman (George), Joanita Ayars (Jayson), Tyesha Gross, Constance Brown (Linwood), Shannon McCray (Steve) and Waukita Mackall; four brothers - Clinton Mackall (Shaiwian), Michael Smith, Asbury Smith, III (Tiffany), and Derrick Gross; one granddaughter - Kennedy Tucker; one Godson - Andre Booth; Special friend - Kim Palmer; close family friends Warren Smith and Lavern Johnson, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
