Obituary for MABEL L. BARNETT

Mabel Lucille Barnett was born to the late James and Edna Waters on June 23, 1937, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Mabel was affectionately known as 'Sis' to some and 'Grandma Mabel' to others. On Sunday, September 30, 2012 Mabel departed this life at home, with her family by her side. She received her education from the Anne Arundel County Public School System. She married the love of her life, Milton Barnett in June 1957. From that union six children were born, Marcus, Glorious, Kandi, Vonda, the late Debbie, and Allen. Mabel was a cafeteria employee at Frederick Douglas High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. In 1999, she retired after 26 years of service, to take care of her ill mother. Mabel became a member of Sollers United Methodist Church in Lothian, Maryland at an early age. In 2008, she changed her membership to the Fresh Start Church, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where she was a member of the Young at Heart Ministry. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend. You always found her spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often kept in touch with family and friends by calling or writing them. It always gave her great pleasure to cook for her family and share meals with anyone who came to visit. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping, and listening to music. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Barnett; daughter, Debbie Wallace; brother, Sherman Waters; sisters, Celia Turner and Elizabeth Owens; and a close friend, Helen Hall. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Marcus Barnett and Allen Barnett; three daughters, Glorious Johnson (Thomas), Kandi Barnett, and Vonda Barnett; 16 grandchildren, Raymond, Annika, Lovie, Ricory, Shemeka, Tanya, Tynica, Delmar, Chevonne, Thomasina, Rhonda, Justin, Reginald, Latorya, Edwin Jr., and Leo; 19 great-grandchildren, Jikaela, Armani, Eboni, Ricory Jr., Riana, Tyionna, Cierra, Ricaden, Cabria, Ricarlo, Daidriana, Tremayne, Reginald Jr., Jaylen, Melvin IV, Amari, Jionne', Jumadd, and Danesha; two step-daughters, Shirlene and Mary Butler; a sister, Irene Johnson; sisters-in-law, Mary Spencer (Horace), Katherine Hall (Ralph), and Frances Colbert (Richard); close friends, Shirley Simmons, Frances Whittington, lola Smith, Jacqueline Butler, and Berline Brooks; special friends, Shericka Whittington, Anna Spigone, and Shanan, Sanchez; and a host of other relatives and friends.
